I have a friend on Freecycle who listed a Singer serger. I didn't see the listing so he called me because he klnew that if I had seen it I would have responded.

Well, we went over to their place tonight a few miles away and holy canoli you wont believe this!

This serger is AMAZING! It works with all of its orginal pieces plus some. It is on a table and is just perfect. It is fromt he early forties and just perfect.

All for nothin'!

I will take pictures just as soon as I figure out how to fit it in my craft room....I just had to brag right away though. I am sooooo excited!!

Hello Tasha, What a wonderful find! A serger from the forties and still working. You should have bragging rights on something like that. Awesome. I am a newbie on this site but when I read of your find I just had to tell someone what I recently found in a local thrift shop here at the coast. The shop accepts donations and the proceeds go to help local folks in need. I stop in everyweek to help support their efforts and I am always finding some really great stuff. One day I spotted something pretty beneath a folded blanket and when I pulled it out it was a hand crocheted bedspread in perfect condition.Absolutely beautiful. Someone actually go rid of it, why?. It is old but perfect. I could not believe my luck. It had no price on it and when I asked what she wanted for it she said would you pay ten dollars? I would have paid 100 dollars or more. Anyway when I walked out of that store I almost cried it was so beautiful. I had been talking about attempting to make a bedspread for months and there it was. A blessing.Tk I guess as the old timers used to say, I just made a brag, Ha! Tracy from Carolina.

Wowwy that is great! And free to boot! I would be doing such a grand happy dance over that find. Ya know, since it is 40 yrs old, it has real metal gears and will run forever. I would get a tune up on it and a new blade.

Wow what a gem... I would love to have one of those or any older machine.

Kathie,

sergers are a charm once you figure them out. I have a serger already, but I have a problem with collecting sewing machines and sergers. All told there are ten of them in my house. I do not like the serger I already have, but I cannot seem to part with it.

in my house, sewing machines are like rabbits.

Freecycle is wonderful. I'ved gotten and given some great things through it and the related lists. Craig's list can be good (as when I got the Featherweight for $100), but sporadic, and some times less than honorable people. How neat to get something you will use and love for free.
