Well I just got back from the Farm Fair!
Beautiful weather! Sunny with a slight breeze! There was some yummy looking food and lots of fun stuff to look at and good music to listen too! Everyone was having a great time!
I know a lot of you are wishing you could have made it this year, and hopefully you can make it next year- It is worth the trip! The farm is a beautiful place!
I hope to be a vendor next year with my soaps, linen sprays, linen powders, tea mixes and organic-non toxic cleaning line. Maybe you all can come and be vendors too?

I couldn't go this year but I sure am planning for next year. My grand daughter is in Pullman, Wa. which is only a hop , skip and a jump from the farm. I am hoping she will go and tell me all about it.

Hello everyone! I meant to post a little report on Farm Fair last week, but spent the week catching up, so here's it is -- better late than never! I also threw together a few pictures:

We all had such a wonderful time -- we met so many new friends, caught up with old ones, and heard many supportive comments that warmed our hearts and energized our efforts! We're glad to report that we broke even this year (due to our decision to charge a $3 admission fee for adults and a small booth fee for vendors). This allowed us to pay for the tents, salaries, and other overhead. Including kids, about 1,500 people made their way to the farm for our second annual fair. We had lots of returnees and many new folks as well, some coming from as far as Vancouver Island, Washington, and Montana! MaryJane was tickled to receive many beautiful and heartfelt gifts of flowers, plants, and food. We even had a film crew from PBS here filming MaryJane for a new series called "America's Heartland" that will air in September. We had 22 vendors in our 4,000-square-foot tent, selling everything from antiques and collectibles to fresh organic produce to free-range chickens to handmade clothing and dolls.
We also had three food vendors this year, providing lunches, snacks and drinks. Our strawberry shortcake booth sold over 500 shortcakes, which kept Julie Bell and her farmgirl crew busy for days. Lucas put together new farmgirl kits for the MaryJanesFarm booth, and those proved to be a hit as well -- everything from Cleaning Up Kits containing the Farm Chicks lovely Peony dish soap, liquid soap, and body lotion, all wrapped in an apron; to Farmgirl Skirt Kits containing everything to make a pretty 3-tiered calico skirt designed by Anna. The MaryJanesFarm t-shirts were another big seller, as well as MaryJane's book, our packaged food, and back issues of the magazine.
We put a lot of effort into activities for kids this year, and the kids responded by having a ball! We had pony rides, face-painting, hopscotch tournaments, a very messy egg toss, and a wild rolling-pin toss (next year, we've vowed to move that activity to an unpopulated area of the field after seeing some wildly unpredictable throws!). Kids also enjoyed our u-pick strawberries, and we were amazed by the number of strawberries that kept coming out of the patch!
We had continuous entertainment both days, and everyone was amazed by the talent! Beargrass, a family affair from Deary, Idaho, entertained us with bluegrass and dance music, and also graciously provided the sound system for the other musicians. Julie and Delvin Watkins, with their son Shayne and his wife Alane, have played together for four years, and recorded their first CD, “Storm Moon,” in 2003. Noi and Friends from Moscow featured 11-year-old Noi Yocum, who has been playing violin professionally since age 7. With her father, Cleve Yocum, on button accordion and mandolin, and Dave Bezdicek playing guitar, Noi played old American and Irish reels and jigs. Champion fiddle player Mabel Vogt of Potlatch, Idaho, wowed the crowd with old-time fiddle music. Dick Warwick of Oakesdale, Washington, recited his heartland poetry, and Ray Gillis, an 8-year-old from Pullman, Washington, amazed the crowd with his Celtic dancing. Folks also enjoyed the Growling Old Women from Pasco, Washington, who entertained with French-Canadian and East African tunes. Another stage hit was Sunday afternoon's hog-calling contest, with folks jumping in from near and far to showcase their favorite calls.
We had an amazing volunteer turnout to help with everything from parking and admissions to our u-pick booth to set-up and clean-up, and we really couldn't have done it without them. Some of our farmgirl volunteers even stayed for an overnight campout! All in all, the whole weekend just couldn't have been better or more inspiring to all of us here at the farm. A huge THANK YOU to all who participated in our Second Annual Farm Fair!!!

Oh, Carol!! I'm sorry I missed this event!... I just couldn't squeeze everything in to the holiday weekend this year... but next year, look out!! I do believe you will have a large contingent of Farmgirls from all over the country arriving to celebrate!
