For those of you who recognize the name as a children's book author/illustrator...you're correct. But if you don't know anything about her you should check out some of the very interesting books about her lifestyle and gardens. She is living in Vt, practicing the old ways of doing nearly everything and even wears period clothing as her everyday wear. I saw her Gardens book yesterday at B&N and just fell in love with it! A truly unique and original gentle spirit. It's like a trip without the travel and you're all the better for having visited!

I just love TAsha Tudor. I have 4 different books about her lifestyle and all...one about her life, one about her gardens and one about her crafting and one called "out Of New England" about her life in a more in depth way. She is someone I would love to meet in person. Gentle is the way I would describe her. I love her illustratios too...what talent.

I love her books. She's a marvel! I find so much inspiration from her books. Did you see the dollhouse one? Wow! She is so creative!

Have y'all seen the Amish cookbooks put out by Marcia Adams? I love to look at all the photos in them. Such a quiet, simple life they lead. The recipes are great, too! ;)

I'm not familiar with the Marcia Adams books but I love Tasha Tudor. I think my favorite is Tasha Tudor's Garden. I would also like to meet her, Jenny.

Marcia Adams did a series on Amish cooking for PBS years ago. She's done quite a few cookbooks of recipes from the past. She's a great believer in bringing back the treasures of the past that have been handed down from generation to generation before they are lost for good.

Here's a link to her many books at Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/cjp3h

I could just look at them all day, much like Mary Jane's book.

I guess I will be checking out some more of her books wherever I can find them, I've never heard of the New England one. We have been cleaning out the attic and my husband put my Tasha Tudor Nursery Rhymes in the Good Will pile and I had to rescue it, I love her illustrations too. He just shook his head but he knows I collect certain children's illustrators so I don't get too much grief!

Marcia Adams had a cooking show on PBS during the 80's -90's called "Cooking From Quilt Country" and she featured alot of the midwestern Amish, Mennonite and farm recipes. I had seen the book at the bookstore but got distracted by the kids so didn't get to open it. I'll have to check next time, I got my chess pie recipe from her
tv show.

I found a hard back copy of Corgiville fair last year at a thrift store in Provo. It has alot of inkmarking from a kid and dogeared pages but I had to have it ( AND it was 50 cents!!)
The "Out of New England" is I think the newest book about Tasha. It is not as big as the others, shaped funny..wider than it is tall and so interesting!! I have the Tasha Tudor cookbook too and have you seen the Buttery shelf cook book and Buttery Shelf Almanac? They are older probably out of print and so pretty...A permanent part of my cookbook collection for sure.

I haven't been able to find the Butt'ry Shelf at a price I can afford...yet!

I wanted to recommend two video documentaries about the life of Tasha Tudor, both produced with her help and showing intimate portraits of her life at the farm. I think I like them even more than the recent books, because they show more of her home and life! One is called "Take Joy" about her life on the farm. The second is called "Take Peace" (I think) showcasing a Tasha Tudor Christmas celebration. At my library, they were housed in the juvenile video collection, which is the only reason I hadn't found them sooner!
Enjoy!

I will have to look for the videos..had heard about TAke Joy, but never seen it. My town's library is small and dosn't have any really neat videos like that...I think what they have are mostly donations. I hope you find the Butt'ry shelf soon..it is good!
By the way, Welcome meridith!! Glad to see you here! Be sure to tell us more about you! I have only been to Nashville once...3 years ago and loved it there..so green and pretty! I was in Possum TRot Kentucky to see my newborn granddaughter and my son took my mom and I (who were there visiting together) to see Nashville. I did see alot more of the Bass Pro Shop than the rest of the city..but enjoyed all I saw and the countryside was so pretty!
Anyway..now that I have rambled on ....welcome!

This is a topic near and dear to my heart--Believe it or not, I just returned from a visit with Tasha Tudor in Vermont. My husband and I joined about twenty other people to tour three generations of Tudor gardens-- Tasha's grandson Winslow, and his wife Amy, Tasha's son Seth and his wife Marjorie and the grand finale Tasha's own piece of heaven, which she aptly describes as Paradise. I believe it is as close to a real Paradise this side of heaven as one is likely to encounter. I have been a Tasha fan since I was ten years old and got my hands on a much loved copy of the Secret Garden, which she illustrated. At the end of the garden tour, we were joined by Tasha herself, escorted by her corgi, Meghan. Tashs is truly remarkable and everything you would expect her to be--a gentle spirit, extremely well spoken, and well, queenly would describe her--even in an apron and barefeet! My husband and I were inspired to pursue a life true to the beat of our heart. This visit was a dream come true and if any of you get an opportunity to visit her--you must. I am sure that she and MaryJane and many of us are all kindred spirits!

I'm a huge Tasha Tudor fan! My ultimate dream is to live the way she does. Sherridale ~ How wonderful to do the garden tours! I so wanted to go, but none of the dates worked for me. I got to meet Tasha a couple summers ago at an Adams Family Farm day with Tasha Tudor. We had so much fun, including making wonderful skin cream with Rosemary Gladstar, watching Kate Smith dye wool, and listening to Margory Tudor read Corgiville Christmas about a year before it was published!

For those who are interested, the Tudor family have a great website where you can learn more about Tasha and order her books or handcrafts and art by other family members. www.tashatudorandfamily.com

I just watched the video "Take Joy!" yesterday. It is very interesting and nice to see her gardens and animals and to listen to her thoughts and ideas and see her art work. She seems to live in a bit in a fantasy world that she's created, but in these times that is probably so much better than what's "out there". Maybe I'll start doing that... heck, maybe I already do!!

Clare-- When I first learned about her many years ago I thought what an eccentric and slightly kooky way to live. As I've aged I look at it a little differently. She has created the world she wishes to live in and removes herself from the mundane and soul defeating advances of our times. Her world is of her making and when she let's us in she's saying" See ... you seek a safe haven too..."( even if it is only for a brief time). If the truth be known , wouldn't we all like to wave our magic wands and make our lives how we perceive "perfect"?
I think for whatever reason her choosing is to remain childlike and
removed from the "world " in sort of a pleasant time warp. Just my take on things, however!

Yes, I agree Bramble... I think I'm living in a time warp too.... at least compared to most of society... and it IS quite comforting. We all just have to find our own definition of our comfort zone for the time warp! And Tasha has succeeded at this BIG time!

Wow, I had never heard of Tasha Tudor, but I saw her name on the post and recognised it later at an old farmhouse I am nannying at. They have a whole shelf of Tasha Tudor books!!! When I looked up the prices of some of these books the following day, I decided my hands should be real clean before I go and pick one up to peruse through again. But, they are within reach of an unappreciating toddler, maybe I'll let them in on the little secret of their books' worth (after I've had the chance to peak through them...I'm afraid they'll disappear!) I'm sketching some of the patterns into my notebook and copying a couple of recipes. What a jewel to have discovered!

I just returned from a tour of the Tudor(s) garden as well! All I can say is having been a fan and devotee for years, actually seeing her at her home amidst that dreamlike garden was an experience of mythical proportions. To say it has changed my life would be an understatement. It's all I could do to think of how I could live my life as simply and beautifully from that day forward...
