Hope I got this right. New to the MJF site. Searced for carrots; wrote a question in an earlier message and some kind sole answered but lost the thread of the conversation...

Anway, my carrots are hairy and small. Any ideas? The kind woman earlier suggested it could be a fertilizer issue. I don't fertilize, at least not intentionally. Meaning, my garden soil is compost, plus leaves and hay layed over in the winter, turned under in the spring. Possibly something in my compost? I do use newspaper in the garden - newsprint - to block weeds. But not in the carrots squares, they went in early (April and May - it was cold late up here in Northern NJ). Still, carrots are maybe 2 inches long, all covered in roots.

New batch of carrots looking to head the same way.

Thanks for your thoughts!
