Hi all...

I am fairly new to this site and I am loving everything I find on here. I am an Eleventh Grade U.S. History teacher in Baldwinsville NY. I would like to get a post card from everystate to decorate my classroom with. I want to hang a string and clip the post cards to it with clothes pins. I think it would be great for my students to see how connected people can be. I try all year to impress upon them the importance of using their voice for good and to be courageous enough to change the things they do not like about themselves or the world they live in. I have them write to veterans and soldiers and I think it would be so great for them to see how connected our country is.

If anyone is willing to help me with this please email me and I will send you my address.

Thanks friends..

Niki

Hi Niki
I'm a 5th grade teacher with a History Major. I always planned on teaching High School History but I just haven't got there yet.. For now 5th grade American History is too special. I'll send a postcard from central Washington. I'll send an email and we can exchange info.

Hi Niki - There is a wonderful website called Karmatube.org that highlights the good acts of others, including children, using video and other communications to show how a simple act can create change in the world. Part of Karmatube is an organization called HelpOthers.org and every week there is a new idea about kindness and sharing and connecting with others in the world. This week's idea of the week is:

HelpOthers.org
Give voice to the unheard. Take a bagged lunch and share it with a homeless person on the street. Empower them with your listening. With a high schooler, interview a homeless person about their life story and email the article to all your friends. Involve someone on the streets with an act of kindness; it could as simple as helping them waive a sign that reads, 'Kindness is contagious. Smile big.'

"I remember a time, when I had no food on my table. I began to walk to my sisters house to ask her for food. As I was walking an old man, said to me hey Miss, and I answered yes, as I thought he needed help. He was fooling around in the back of his truck. He said to me, I just left my church and they gave me lots of food, do you need any food ? And I said yes, and broke into tears. This man had no idea who I was, or my needs...but it was his act of kindness, that taught me the value of KINDNESS." --BlairExlair

This may be a couple of websites that your students may want to look at -they are great examples of using your voice for good and finding the courage to implement change.

What a wonderful project you are doing!!!
