I was walking with Sky-dog and Nora in the yard today and went to go visit one of two volunteer treelings that I discovered (in a vast ocean of prairie grass and no trees...okay not so vast but still...) I looked down at the (plentiful) dandelions and was overjoyed to see bees! Not just one or two- but at a quick glance I counted over 10! I am so excited! I _have_ to go get flowers now! Maybe tomorrow I will buy some cheap Walmart flowers and plant them for my poor bees!

Oh, that's nice to hear-I've been worried about them! I've been keeping an eye out-I've seen a couple of big huge bumblebees, but none of the little honeybees yet.

Keep your fingers crossed for us....we started 7 hives this year (sadly, our two from last year perished) Every living being is dependant upon these little guys!!!!

Congrats, Alee! I'm still only seeing the big yellow/black striped bumblebees, as well. But we sure have a bumper crop of them! And wasps....waaaayyy too many of them! :(

I have seen a few bees here also. I work for the Court here in Idaho City and our Judge raises bees. He lost all of them this last year and just got a new shipment in, and so far, so good.
Losing the bees is one of the scariest things we face as a nation. I believe the fact that without 2" of topsoil and for the fact that it rains we would not be here. Add bees to that equation and that is how badly we need them.
I think many people take so much for granted. When people appreciate the simple things in life, that do not cost money, such as sun, rain, bees, a smile or a helping hand from a stranger, then we as a nation are on the right track.
The seed package we created to throw from our float for the fourth of July has the words on the front "Bless the Bees" sow seeds for life. I will add a picture of it when I can figure out how to do that.
Yes, bless the bees!

| Yes today I was blessed to see one of the most significant wonders of bees. My daughter and I were out side enjoying the sun,we heard a loud buzz and out of nowhere a swam of honeybees were above our heads, we quickly went inside to watch. Our whole front yard was taken over, we had received a visit from the QUEEN BEE herself, they formed a hive in a beautiful bush in my front yard it so amazing how they work and how they protect their QUEEN. It is so amazing because at this time the bees are in such a gentle stage, they are so excited to be in the presence of her that they don't dare sting anyone (unless provked) because that would be one less bee to create her hive(nest). I see why MayJane is a QUEEN BEE! It was absolutly beautiful! |

The bees have been busy in my yard - with the blueberry bushes, lavendar and the clematis blooming they have stuff to "buzz" to. I also have huge bumblebees. Soon the roses will be blooming and they will love that. I am glad I have enough stuff in bloom to keep them coming.

Ann,
Did the swarm move on or did it find a suitable place to create a hive at your place?
I love it when I get a call from the county extension department about a swarm of honeybees at someone's place. I keep an extra hive set up so all I have to do is go capture the swarm, bring it home and hive it.
Well, I like it when the call is for honeybees and not for wasps!! And if the swarm isn't w-a-y up high in a tree!!!

 Well sad to say they moved on! It was so exciting for several days! They found my quince bush, that I had trimed way back since it always fills out fast they had a beautiful setting! Thay decided their home wasn't in my front yard, maybe next year! |

Sorry to hear the bees have moved on. Maybe they will come back to visit through out the year. I hope they hive close to your house so you will get all the wonderful pollination benefits from the bees!
