Who doesn't love aprons? I am just tickled pink that I won Aunt George's apron drawing. For one thing, I was just amazed with how she turned a short sleeve shirt into such an adorable apron. I can't wait to try it myself. For another thing, I make aprons too, but so far I've only made half aprons because they take less fabric and seem simpler. Aunt George has inspired me to try making a full apron finally...

A girlfriend and I have pledged to make aprons for Christmas gifts this year. I already started because I know if I don't, they'll never be done in time! Here are the 3 I've made so far (they're also in my myspace), but I already gave the cowgirl apron away as a hostess gift recently, so now I only have two! It's kinda hard to see all the details in these pictures, especially some of the different types of ric rac and the see through tulle. I really like the see through pocket on the 80's denim apron and I think it's pretty funny that it's so impractical. That one was more for fun than anything. Reminds me of Madonna and fingerless gloves!

Sarah, they are beautiful!!! I love all of them. I have some roy rogers fabric that I am going to combine with denim colored fabric with boots and roses on it. Thought that would be really fun.

Thanks for posting your beautimous aprons!! Oh, and Sarah, just remember, the bigger the apron, the more fabric you are going to have. I have found that if you seam rip the back yoke off, and open it up, you have alot of fabric for a waistband. In using the small shirt, I came up with the coolest idea for waistbands!!

All Farmgirls need at least one apron!!

Aunt George,

I don't mind ripping seams at all. When I was in college I had the coolest job - working in the theatre arts costume shop. My sewing abilities are only intermediate and sometimes I would make mistakes or something would need to be changed for some reason. The ladies in the shop were sooo cool. They would say, "That's okay, that's what seam rippers are for." I learned to be very patient and to take the time to do things right the first time, or to do them over if needed.

I really like all your tips,

Sarah

Sarah,
I LUV your Cowgirl apron.....
I went to the G.W. store yesterday & bought 2 men's short sleeve shirts & 1 floraly type print ladies dress, each for a whopping .99cents,,,,I finished cutting them apart & salvaging the buttons for future aprons...I am so glad that Aunt George planted the seed in our brains to use mens old shirts.

Congratulations Sarah!!
Both on Winning Aunt George's Apron.. & making your own too!!
They are all 3 adorable!
i'm with you though on the full length ones..
They are always so much more detailed.. & seem to be so much more difficult for me! But THESE are the ones i NEED really!!
Because EVERYTHING lands above the waist when i spill something it seems!
I am going to see what i can do about tackeling one of Ggeorgeann's..
This sounds ingenious!

Ok, so while I was over @ Wally World yesterday, buying more fabric & stuff,,,,I searched for some westerny type fabric....they did not have any, but I did find a cute outdoors-woodsy-fishing type of fabric. I bought 1 1/2 yards.... I may not be able to replacate your cowboy one, but the quest to find the perfect cowbow print will be fun.
Don't suppose you wanna share where you bought that fabric????

I know Alexander Henry makes some cut cowgirl fabrics. If you want an online shop check www.reprodepot.com. They have some fun cowgirl/cowboy prints. Love that apron too!!!
