It's Arbor Day here in Illinois. I know that different states "celebrate" it on different days. http://www.arborday.org/arborday/index.cfm
After our soccer games today I think I'll take our girls out to the woods for a hike. We've been doing a mini study of tree's here at home. I may make up a tree scavenger hunt for them to do - based on bark since. Not many trees have leaves yet.
We have a few tree's that have sprung up in our yard that I'd like to move. Those little maples just spring up everywhere here. Once upon a time previous owners had mulberry trees planted around the property - those trees come up like weeds. I wonder if I can keep one pruned to a small size.... and if it will bear fruit?
Anyone else doing something for Arbor Day?

I love Arbor Day - I think today, since we planted so many trees around Earth Day, I'll just give a silent appreciation for all of the lovely trees that are on our farm. They are wonderful.
XOXO, Libbie

We went out and planted a little tiny blue spruce. I've been doing this since I was a kid. When I was in elementary school we brought home a seedling to plant-the tree is pretty big now!!

I love Arbor Day, but can't plant any trees in my yard this year since I only rent. However as I as mowing the wild patch of grass that is my back yard- I found a volunteer tree! It had been hiding out in the 3 foot tall grass hoping to survive! I carefully mowed around it and I am going to baby it all summer long. I want that tree to thrive!
I think I am going to try and plant some trees on public forested land this year, but that might have to wait until it gets a bit warmer though.
