| I will let everyone know as I receive their squares, many of you have finished your squares or are working on them this weekend. I should start getting them soon. Someone on this swap has contacted me about the next quilt square swap, she has the idea for it and everything worked out already, but I will let her do the post about it. I love getting fun stuff in the mail, too. I hope we can continue to do these, maybe increasing the level of difficulty as we go along. I look forward to seeing everybody's work...jess |

 So glad they arrived. I am looking forward to making the top and quilt from these blocks. They are so cheerful and bright. My daughter has her eye set on this one for her room.

Wahooo! I was able to steal some time for myself this weekend and cut & sew my squares...they are all sewn & pressed now. Now I just need to cut them down to 6 1/2" squares.
I'll sneak out on my lunch break on Wednesday to mail them.
I hope when my work schedule slows down I will have time to make a Crazy 9 for myself, I'd like to use a monochromatic color scheme. But for now I will have to daydream about making one.
Jess, I will enclose a return stamped envelope along with the squares.

mine will be mailed today. Sorry so late after making them just going a little crazy these last few weeks with sick kids. Side note they don't have fevers any more. The one still has the pain in her belly constantly still can't figure it out but they,the doctors, are trying some medicine on her to see if it helps. two week test.

I believe that is correct. I can't wait to see everyone's handiwork. I am planning on attend days at a quilt retreat only 1/2 hour from my home one weekend in MAy. These are going to be the blocks I put together into a top at that time.

mine went out in the mail yeasterday (3/21) as promised.
yea, they are on their way.
I decided not to put my sewing machine away till I receive my friendship squares and can stitch all the squares together. I made a few extras for myself. If all goes well, I should be able to make a table coverlet with the friendship squares, I will decide what the best color for the backing will be when I receive them. "couse I will once again have to 'steal' some time for myself to do this but it will be so worth it.

I did the first cut and sew on the 36 blocks tonight! I just realized as I was typing this that I only had to make TWELVE!! How dense I have been lately with running around at school and so forth. I have been cutting for 36!!! and I only needed 12. Oh well, I will have plenty to make a bigger covering with. I am planning to have them done by Sunday since we are ripping up the floors in our first floor on Monday. New floors will be in within a week and a half of that day! YAY.
So, they will be on their way Monday. Looking forward to seeing them all.
Give me my dunce cap right now for not paying attention to the directions (which were quite clear!) |

The more squares you make, the bigger your quilt will be, have fun with it, I think most of us made a lot more than just 12!

I spread everyone's squares out today, well everyones that I have, on my dining room table tonight and they are just so playful, they just made me smile. Everyone have a great weekend! |

I ended up making 36 larger squares (did not like the way the first few I cut to 6 1/2 looked, so I made another 18 that were 8 inches to start with. They cut down to 6 1/2 really nicely. Will get them into the mail Monday morning! Cannot wait to see them all together.

I originally cut mine at 8 1/2" and now I wished I cut them only 8" to start. The middle square may look a little algre compared to the others. Next time around on a quilt like this, I wil ldo the 1 1/2" larger than finished size as well.

Clare: I am sure your squares look fine. My first set were not coming out well with the 10 inches. The center sort of "took over" when I cut them down. Can't wait to see them all!

These are coming out so cute! And they're so easy--I love it! I finished sewing the first 9 last night, and I'm planning to make the second 9 tonight (I know, only 12 for the swap, but I was following the instructions with 9 fabrics in each pile, so I'll have 18). The sewing machine had to break down during the first 9, but I've taken it apart, cleaned & oiled everything, and put it back together, so it worked great last night.
I've never used starch before, and WOW, does it make a difference! The difference between flimsy feeling, wishy washy fabric that wants to move all over and stiff fabric that stays put is incredible! I think I'm going to start looking at quilting in a whole new way!

Grace, got your squares last night. You did an excellent job keeping them all lined up! And everything smells so wonderful...thanks!
Why is it that when you are sewing with no deadline everything comes together easily and the machine works great? A lot of times when I am sewing for projects with deadlines, my sewing machine needs help. I totally understand. I am borrowing my sister's machine right now and mine is at the shop.
I thought I had better get on the ball, I have gotten almost everyones and mine are still in pieces, so I put together most of them last night. What fun during a spring thunderstorm.

I am so glad they turned out,,, Even though I was short on time, I managed to make an extra set of them for myself to use. They really are easy once you get going.
I luv tucking lavender in my container of fabrics, just keeps them smelling nice as well as keeping the pesty bugs out of the fabric.
I ironed the squares with lavender water spritz too.

OK, I'm just finishing up my last squares and I have a question. My understanding from reading page 1 is that we should even the square up at 6 1/2 inches. Any suggestions on how to do this precisely? Exact precision has never been my strong suit in sewing (that's probably why I've not done more quilting--precise seams don't happen very often in my world!). I have a 6" clear "ruler square" (oh the quilting terminology I have in my brain-HA!) But then I have to add 1/2". What's the best way? I do have a rotary cutter & mat--should I just measure it out there? Or should I just leave them a bit bigger and let you all cut them down? What did everyone do?

I used my rotary cutter and mat and a metal ruler. I cut my squares so that they were 6 1/2" on all sides. If you are worried about doing this, I am happy to do it for you, it only takes a few minutes. We won't hold it against you if it is not perfect. Don't get too worried about it.
