Sara, that recipe does sound really great, nice comfort food for this time of year! Debbie, agreed on keeping it easy this time of year - this week I’m attempting to use up all of our fridge ingredients before Christmas so we have a bit more space! We inherited some ingredients from my in-laws after they left us at Thanksgiving…! So tonight is pasta with spinach and vodka cream sauce, with a salad.

Kate, your dish sounds yummy. I do like a vodka cream sauce though I have never made it.

Today I canned beef broth made from 4lbs beef shanks. Had little over 1/2 a quart broth left over so I cooked pasta in it. Then I added cooked broccoli and the beef shanks that I thinly sliced. I enjoyed it for lunch and will freeze a serving or two for future lunches.

More thunderstorms today so it's the right kind of day for soup. Making one of my favorites. Sugar snap peas, baby gold potatoes, canned whole tomatoes in chicken broth with herbs, garlic & onion powders.

What's on your table?

That sound like a nice soup Sara! Add some crusty bread and its a hearty meal!
I'm making linguine with lemon garlic butter sauce, and I may add some leftover chicken, but maybe not!

Last night we had cabbage, kielbasa and Texas toast

1/2 head of cabbage
1 pack turkey kielbasa
1 onion
Stick of butter
1 cup chicken broth
S&P to taste

I cut everything into bite size and put in instant pot with meat on top and set for 4 minutes.
Yum

wow that is quick and easy Nancy. Enjoy. I don't have an instant pot, but it sure makes a quick meal.

Hi Michele,
I looked up the recipe using a crock pot instead of an instant pot. You can cook the kielbasa in a skillet and brown then add it with the other ingredients to the crock pot, then set on high for 3hrs. If you want the cabbage a little crisper set it for 2.5 hours.

Our traditional New Year's day dinner tonight: Roast pork on sauerkraut, blackeyes, collard greens, and cornbread. We're lucky to share it with our grandson Nick this year. He gifted us with a dozen tamales last night.

Like Judith I am having a pint of my home canned blackeye peas and collard greens that I cooked yesterday, along with my home canned herbed apples and marinated mushrooms for my lunch.

I will be making Mary Berry's Sticky Chicken Drumsticks for dinner tonight since I will be on the road for most of my day. The chicken legs marinate in a simple mix of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, coarse mustard, honey, salt and pepper. Pop it in the oven for 30-40 minutes and dinner is served!

Hi everyone,
Hubs is out of town this week so I able to cook all my favorites that are not his.

Yesterday, I made Ham-Beens 15 bean soup with turkey sausage. I added onions and celery and put it all in the slow cooker. Every other Sunday I chat with my bestie in Minnesota. I couldn't wait to get off the cell and dig in. It was worth the wait. Yum!

Tonight I had biscuits and country gravy another yum. I still have four days to fill. Only draw back to all this is Hubs is visiting his bro. Bro's wife is an awesome cook. My only culinary brag is no has ever been sent to the hospital on my account.

Hi Nancy, your bean soup sounds delicious. Last Thurs my sister & I went to see my great niece & her family. She made sausage gravy and biscuits and sent me home with the leftovers which I had for supper. Gotta love a bowl of biscuits & gravy.

Leftover beef & veg soup. Soup is one of the few things I like to eat leftovers anymore.

Busy with hay right now, and I threw a pork roast in the crockpot with apple cider and apples. Put in the apple cider, put salt, pepper, and cinnamon on your roast and sear all sides. Put in crock pot. Chunk up apples and put around roast. Set on low for 8 hrs. Was pretty good.

Here in MA we’re in that time of year where we’re craving the comfort foods, but the temps are still not consistently cold enough! Although it’s nice to fill in with those on the cooler or rainier days. Yesterday my wonderful husband made us a big batch of chili and cornbread! And I’m thinking of trying another soup on Wednesday or Thursday…maybe loaded baked potato soup which I have never tried!
