Sara once you've dried the stevia do you just steep it in your tea?

Dawn I've never had stevia before so I'm planning on steeping it with my hot tea and straining it. I've got the cutest little strainer that goes over a cup, so I'll have fun playing with it.

I'm looking forward to your results Sara. I have some in my freezer I dried but I never figured out what to do with it!

Heather here's my personal take on stevia. I don't care for the sweet aftertaste. I read it was sweeter than sugar so I used 1/2 tsp of stevia to 16oz hot tea (I have my morning tea in a 16oz styro-foam cup) I prefer a China cup but then I would have to wash it, sorry about me rambling on but I do that sometimes. I'll do my best to finish this morning tea then it's back to raw sugar in my tea tomorrow morning. Oh, I'll see if my great niece wants my stevia plant.

Once again Sara, you and I have similar taster buds. I've grown stevia several times and just find it to be way too sweet, with a lingering aftertaste. It's a shame, because it is supposed to be a healthy alternative to sugar. |

I use organic stevia packets in my lemon water and iced tea. I have gotten used to the slight aftertaste that Sara mentioned. I do like using it now and only a wee bit is needed when I make up my iced tea. Enjoy finding the best alternative to sugar that you will like.

Thanks Dawn. The older I get the more I dislike sweets of any kind.

Sara - If you still have your plant maybe try adding a small fresh leaf to your cup with the tea bag for a minute or two. (or maybe try it with just some water so as to not ruin the tea if it doesn't work)
I have dehydrated some lavender and now I'm doing some cherries.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some chamomile. I planted some seeds and they've had a heck of a time getting started.

My chamomile reseeds itself. So that is nice. Good luck with yours Heather. I do have a few things that I planted that are struggling to come up. Basil and Parsley to name two.

I'm not having much luck with anything from seed this year, except for some sunflowers. Makes me feel like I've wasted seeds! Anyway, I have some bananas in the dehydrator and spearmint in the oven. Kind of an odd smell combination in the house :)

Heather, about the only thing I can grow from seed successfully is zinnias and that's because I sow them outdoors. I don't have sunny windows to grow seeds inside.
I'm waiting for my lemon thyme to start to bloom so I can harvest and dry it. I find that I like the lemon thyme better than the regular kind.

Sara, I need to clip a few leaves from stevia. 1 pound of basil picked from garden( this was over 3 weeks). Half went into freezer, rest dried and into jar. A pound of fresh basil from farmer's co-op would cost $18(inset shocked look), glad I can grow this herb.

$18!?! That's crazy! Makes me wish my basil would have taken off so I can sell some LOL!
Sara - I didn't even have luck direct sowing outdoors this year. It was so cool this spring then it just got crazy hot. My marigolds and zinnias didn't even grow. I've never had trouble with them before.

I picked and dried some basil the other day, from my ma's garden. Guess it is worth its weight in gold, haha. My basil seed did not come up. I had issues with the seeds I started inside. They came up and then just sat there, hardly growing. I blame the potting soil, which was for veggies. Once I put them in the garden they took off.

Dried parsley from Aldi today. As I have said before I have given up on growing parsley from either plant or seed.
