Hello, this is Marie the August 2024 August Farmgirl of the Month.

I decided to use this forum for updates on my experiences during this month and to thank all the lovely Farmgirls who have given me thoughtful gifts.

First, I have noticed that more Farmgirls receiving this honor has included a mention in their signatures. I congratulate everyone who has been named Farmgirl of the Month and Farmgirl of the Year. As I have said before, this took me totally by surprise. I had not been extremely active during the past few years. I have been having this constant low-level of depression for some time. It is strange, sometimes I feel really well and happy, other times I feel as if I have trouble doing or being interested in anything and other times, I have no feelings about anything at all. I function just fine and I am taking my medications. Maybe I am just more aware of my mental condition.

I received a package of origami paper from Sara Knight (YellowRose). These papers are high quality and will do nicely for my tea bag folding projects. I am currently making as many as I can to sell at the Minnesota State Fair.

Just today, I received a nice package from Denise Thompson (levisgrammy). Contained within were Twinnings Orange & Cinnamon Tea, Trader Joe's Organic Green Tea, Stash Peppermint Tea, fresh lavender, a lavender infused exfoliating batch glove and one yard of dark green fabric with chickens on it. I love everything. Thank you so much. I have wanted to make lavender sachets for myself.

I haven't grown anything this year. I still have not put together the planter that I have had partially assembled for three years. I found out that I had assembled it incorrectly and having to dismantle it as removed any motivation I have for finishing it. It is too late to plant much this year and I still may try. I may need some gentle reminders to work on it.

Thank you all for reading.

Hello everyone!

The well wishes keep coming in. I just received a package from Vanessa (AudraRose) who is my younger sister.

She sent me two facial masks, a small bar of magnolia-scented soap, a sticker of a duck saying, "Don't Ruffle My Feathers", (these last two seem to be from the Peabody Hotel in Memphis), 2 bags each of Davidson's Organic Coconut Vanilla tea, Tradition Lavender Green Tea, Bordies Raspberry & Peach Tea and Ahmad Tea Raspberry & Pomegranate Green Tea, two interesting old plastic buttons and a cheery card saying "Sunshine and Happiness."

She knows how much I love raspberries. Our Grandmother Listopad lived on a farm and had a large garden. She and I used to go in there to eat raspberries. Occasionally one of the raspberries had a bug inside it and we didn't know until we popped it in our mouths. That was a rude awakening and would kill the desire to eat anymore raspberries for a while. We came back anyway. They were just too yummy.

I find that the current economy has hit me a bit hard. Bills keep coming in and money has stayed the same. It is now time to make some changes. For instance, we have plenty of dried legumes and we never cook them. My DH is not certain either of us can cook them properly. I am currently soaking my one-half cup of lentils and plan to put them in a crock pot soup which should make several meals. I have developed this recipe myself and am quite proud of it. I use some ingredients which may normally be thrown away or composted.

We are watching the Sherlock Holmes show called The Master Blackmailer. It is sad that some people take advantage like that. I like how Sherlock goes into the blackmailer's house as a plumber to spy on him and inadvertently gains the affection of the maid. Very funny watching him react to her advances. One of the blackmailer's past victims got him good.

Have an excellent evening.

I remember the fresh green peas we ate from her garden and helping Grandma collect eggs. We had fun, didn't we!
Everything I sent is for you to pamper yourself, and who knows how to make you happy better than a sister.

I have received another package. Wow! Farmgirls are so great!

Winifred (Red Tractor Girl) sent me a lovely package.

She sent me a very nice card, a painted box that says, "Bee Happy", a wooden magnet saying, "Sweet As Can Bee", a small beehive-shaped candle, a heart-shaped paper ornament and a pair of garden gloves. I will display the painted box prominently. The magnet will go on my refrigerator. I'll save the candle for later. The ornament will go in the usual place where I hang things like this. Thank you so much.

Oh dear, it is the last day of August. How the time passes so quickly.

Yes Debbie, I did get the package safe and sound. I apologize for not saying so here.

Debbie sent me a book of cross stich patterns for the Kitchen (I will definitely make some of these), 2 dish towels (which I have used), Chicken Soup for the Soul Word-Finds, a pretty little notebook, a Special Occasion List book, a bookmark with goose pictures and several bags of tea: Tazo Energize, Chami Organic Premium Green, Tazo Lemon Strawberry, Ahmad Peach & Passion Fruit, Bigelow Perfectly Mint, Pukka Turmeric Glow. Also, a bag of fresh lavender. Thank you so much.

I will say that everyone has been so generous and thoughtful with the gifts. I have kept the lists of Farmgirl Likes from past Christmas Stocking swaps and I can see others have also. I will have a difficult time selecting the next Farmgirl of the Month.

I have gone to the Minnesota State Fair three times. I was representing The Art Shoppe (https://www.theartshoppemgm.com/) at the Midwest Global Market (https://midtownglobalmarket.org/). Anyone who volunteered to work the booth was allowed to place items there for sale. I put in some of my folded stars and bookworms and three of my leaf-shaped dishcloths. I didn't sell anything. I believe that all of us need to reassess the types of items we show when we do this next year.

I found some amazing crafts in the Arts and Crafts building. My favorite is this one.

I have noticed that many of the Blue Ribbon Winners have some humor involved.

And now I have decided who the next Farmgirl of the Month is for September. She is Krista (MaryJanesNeice). I choose her because of her enormous amount of engagement and support of all the farmgirls. She started the Merit Badge Chit Chat forum which is a great source of support for completing badges. I want to do badges, have started some and have not been able to finish. We all know so much about her children, home and her passion for crochet. She also organizes the monthly card swaps. I believe that Krista will be an excellent Farm Girl for the month of September 2024.

Congratulations, Krista. Enjoy your soon-to-be-cooler month of September as FGOTM!

You have made a super choice, Marie. Krista is very encouraging to all farmgirls and she is a very creative farmgirl with all the projects she crochets and crafts for her children.
