Posted - Jul 20 2011 : 1:12:42 PM My friend, and her family, have been affected by a growing disorder: autism. It's a hard path to take, as her little girl is only three years old (diagnosed at 2.5 years). Though it's been a challenge to say the word and acknowledge the diagnosis, they are becoming active members of the growing community looking to help children with autism. I really liked this information that the mother, my friend, found about private funding for research and urge you, my sisters, to try and help increase this as soon 4 million children will have this terrifying diagnosis.
Prevalence vs. Private Funding (www.autismspeaks.org) Leukemia: Affects 1 in 1,200 / Funding: $277 million Muscular Dystrophy: Affects 1 in 100,000 / Funding: $162 million Pediatric AIDS: Affects 1 in 300 / Funding: $394 million Juvenile Diabetes: Affects 1 in 500 / Funding: $156 million Autism: Affects 1 in 110 / Funding: $79 million

Posted - Jul 25 2011 : 08:03:33 AM I have a friend who was a missionary. She said children were being diagnosed with autism overseas. When they came back to the states they found heavy metal build up in their bodies. Once the heavy metals were eliminated they were fine. I don't know if this holds true in all cases, but I found it interesting.
