My friend, and her family, have been affected by a growing disorder: autism. It's a hard path to take, as her little girl is only three years old (diagnosed at 2.5 years). Though it's been a challenge to say the word and acknowledge the diagnosis, they are becoming active members of the growing community looking to help children with autism. I really liked this information that the mother, my friend, found about private funding for research and urge you, my sisters, to try and help increase this as soon 4 million children will have this terrifying diagnosis.
Prevalence vs. Private Funding (www.autismspeaks.org) Leukemia: Affects 1 in 1,200 / Funding: $277 million Muscular Dystrophy: Affects 1 in 100,000 / Funding: $162 million Pediatric AIDS: Affects 1 in 300 / Funding: $394 million Juvenile Diabetes: Affects 1 in 500 / Funding: $156 million Autism: Affects 1 in 110 / Funding: $79 million
