I want to make bone broth. Do I just cook the bones for 14 hours or so?....or do I put celery and carrots or other veggies in with it? Is 14 hours long enough to cook for the medicinal puropses of it?? Any help is appreciated...thank you

Sara...I have learned to get the medicinal properties from the bones they do need to cook a very long time. Like-beef bones or oxtails 48 hours. chicken - 24 hrs. fish -8 hrs. I like the website wellness mama.com. I added the carrots, celery and onion to mine. It is very healthy in so many ways.
Lisa...you are right, the vinegar pulls the minerals and such from the bones - that is a must to do also.
Jana ... thank you for the informational websites you gave me.
I am now drinking 1/2 cup to 1 cup of broth per day. I am hopeful it will help my arthritis, and my acid reflux. Thank you ladies for all your help!!

The vinegar is important as it helps pull the good minerals from the bones.

Linda, I make beef broth all the time with ox tails or beef shanks but only cook it for 3-4 hours. I do add celery, onions, carrots, a dab of tomato paste, and herbs. Rosemary, thyme, and garlic are medicinal herbs. I strain the broth and defat it.

I have read to achieve health benefits the bones have to cook a very long time but I can't remember just how long. My sister makes bone broth in her slow cooker and cooks it for 8-10 hours.

If you find out how long to cook it please post here. If I am going to make it I should get the most health benefits out of it.
