Here's the drop cookie Frannie of Cabin Creek requested that I post. It's from the Gift-Giver's Cookbook that will be given away via drawing on Saturday morning (see FarmGirl Barter). Read the instructions through before you begin mixing -- note that the baking soda needs to be dissolved into the coffee. I've never heard of Crybabies cookies, but they sound really good! Here's the recipe, exactly as published in the book:

Crybabies

Preheat oven to: 350 degrees
Utensils needed: At least 2 cookie sheets, greased
Baking time: 12 to 15 minutes
Quantity: About 6 dozen
Storing: loosely covered container for 10 days

1 cup softened butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups sifted flour (more if needed)
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup strong hot coffee
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup seedless dark raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the molasses.

Sift together the flour, cinnamon, ginger and salt. Add to the creamed mixture alternately with the hot coffee, in which you have dissolved 2 teaspoons baking soda. Stir in the raisins and nuts. Drop by the teaspoonful 1-1 1/2 inches apart onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove from pan and cool on wire racks.

LOL! Yes, you can put them in your bran muffins! And like Frannie you can steal a wee nip too, although it's kind of raisin-y by the time they're done soaking.

Don't ask me how I know this.

Mmmm, these look delicious! I think I might use espresso instead of coffee, and soak the raisins in dark rum overnight first. I bet with the molasses these would be chewy and wonderful! Based on the ingredients, they'd be something that a pioneer woman would make out of things in the pantry during the cold weather months.

I look forward to making them; thanks for posting!
