Posted - Apr 29 2013 : 07:46:05 AM i found also that if they are thawed in to warm a room the bottom pops. i put the jar on a towel out of drafts for defrost. my freezer goes sub-zero so they need to thaw slowly just a thought.

Posted - Apr 10 2013 : 7:53:44 PM I have frozen my jams yearly without any issues. As mentioned above I leave a little space near the top for expansion. The same goes for soup and I have never had the glass break. Hope this helps. |

Posted - Apr 10 2013 : 6:14:38 PM Make sure you aren't freezing using the regular canning jars. There are some specific to freezing. Last year I came across some put out by Ball. They are plastic but not the bad for you kind of plastic for freezing. They work great and even stack.

Posted - Apr 10 2013 : 6:02:52 PM Jessia, I've never had canning jars freeze in the freezer but it is important to not fill them too full. You do have to allow for expansion space. I have frozen applesauce and soups . . . among other things successfully. If you're not sure about how much space to leave, err on the side of caution and leave more than you think. It WILL expand with freezing! Hope that helps! CJ

Posted - Apr 10 2013 : 5:23:27 PM Yes they will. I tried to freeze soup a few years ago and had several that broke. I may have filled them to full that lead to breaking with expansion of the soup.
