Posted - Dec 31 2012 : 05:51:57 AM Yep, I'll be making a huge pot of blackeyed peas tomorrow.
My 73 year old mom and I love to cook in the kitchen together. We talk and laugh and cry and laugh again. I have wonderful memories I've made with her, my grandmother and now, my daughters.
To the question.... We do both.
The cornbread often gets eaten up when it comes out of the oven. So, rice takes up the slack for second helpings later in the evening.
One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt." |

Posted - Dec 31 2012 : 1:21:36 PM It all sounds so delicious to me. I say do both!
If I didn't live so far away, I would just have to invite myself over for a bowl of black eyed peas. My hubby and son will not touch them. Both say they look to much like little tiny ears. LOL! We will be having Cabbage and Corned Beef along with Cornbread. For dessert, my two guys and daughter have requested homemade blackberry cobbler.
Oh my, I can just taste the broth from those black eyed peas dripping all over my cornbread. YUM!! So please, do a big bowl for me. LOL!
Hugs! and Happy New Year to you and all of your family!

Posted - Dec 31 2012 : 06:15:13 AM I have my black eyed peas ready to go for tomorrow. Rice and cornbread also. Oh enjoy all your time with your Mother. My mother passed away in October. I miss her. Also it will be her birthday tomorrow. She was a new years baby. I will eat an extra pea for her. What fun it is to cook with all your family. I will have a new grand baby this year. I am so hoping for a grand daughter. I have all boys. But my youngest graduated from culinary school. He likes to get in the kitchen and cook with me. Happy New Years to you and your family.
