Have you tried any of Ree's receipes? I enjoy her cooking show, Pioneer Woman and her blog.
I tried her pulled pop pork and it was too spicy for this old Mo. farm gal so the next time I used roasted red peppers and salsa instead of the peppers that Ree uses and my husband is still raving.

I have her cook book. I've done the chicken fried steak...needs more seasoning iho. Did the shrimp penne ala betsy..LOVE IT! Just remember to cut the recipe in half for smaller families (except the shrimp. I could eat that all the time).

I think I will probably go to looking around for one. In MJ's latest issue, they had an article and showed some small dutchovens. They are listed on Amazon. The small ones would probably be better for just me and hubby but I am thinking I will get a large one if the apples turn off enough for a batch of apple butter. I let one sell that had belonged to my mother in law at the sale. I am kicking myself. She made many roast beefs in her faded red one.

I didn't win the red mixer either! Darn the luck.

Sarita, Just go buy a cast Iron Dutch Oven it does the same thing and is a lot less expensive. I have 2 different sizes of cast iron dutch ovens . I love them. You might could find one at a thrift store. I have found quite a few cast iron pieces at thrift stores. Good Luck... Maybe Santa could bring you one. LOL

Have you all signed up for Ree's give away? 3 Shiny Red Mixers...chances are slim but I would just love to win one...but if I can't, I hope one of the farm girls does. Winners will be chosen tonight. My fingers and toes are crossed!

I made her strawberry oatmeal bars again to take to the church after services. Instead of strawberry jam, I use my Ball Peach freezer jam and they are so good! They were a hit!
I have not tried the chili yet...I know that I can not use all the heat that Ree does. I just can't eat those real hot spicy foods but I use taco sauce and salsa instead and my hubby really raves about the food I have been fixing since I started watching Pioneer Woman...Now we have to diet!

It sounds weird to add the masa to chili and I have always been perfectly content with my chili so with trepidation I made hers. It is now the ONLY way I make chili although I leave out most of the really "hot" chili's from most of her recipes. We have made her steak sandwiches, pork with wine (can't remember the name), pancakes, "The Bread", pork chops, etc, etc. So far everything has been delish (sheet cake was too sugary for me but I am a dark chocolate gal) but you have to limit your PW nights because of the butter, butter and butter to taste. I would weigh 400 pounds if I cooked out of her books every night!

Thanks for the info Jonni, I see Ree use her dutch oven for so many recipes and I can not find it now but someone had a bread that they make in their dutch oven with the lid on...people had tried her recipe and raved about it...shucks, now I have to go back and see if I book marked it.
Kay, thanks for sharing about Ree, she just hits me as a gal that I would really like. I also like to read Ladde's blog. He has some very interesting input on the cattle business and they both seem to adore and love their children. Someday maybe I will meet her and buy one of her recipe books. I get many of her recipes from the food web site.

If I don't win her give aways...hope one of you do.

Love Ree! I have all of her books and watch her show. Follow her on her blog. They had a piece on her brother being a 20-year honorary member of the Midwest City Fire Department and how he's down here every year to help them out. I got to meet her, Marlboro Man, and the kids at a book signing. Ladd signed a book and so did Ree. It was a very long day, but she stayed until everyone who wanted an autograph got one and was so very gracious. I finally got to see her around 7:30 pm. Her hubby and kids were so sweet during all of it.

Well darn. I didn't win it either. I'll probably never own one either. :( I just think I really need one for my new kitchen.

I would LOVE a Le Creuset dutch oven...but they're pretty expensive too. That's good to know about the paint on the other brands...

Sarita, a Dutch oven is an amazing tool in the kitchen. I have one, made by Le Creuset (I didn't buy it, my mother in law did, for my 30th birthday!), and I can't live without it. I use it to roast chickens with veggies, roast tenderloins, etc...I love that it goes from the stovetop to the oven and can withstand the highest temperatures.

The only thing I would make sure you're aware of is if you're purchasing a dutch oven with an enamel color on the exterior or interior (Martha Stewart at Macys, or Rachel Ray at Kohl's), there is a tendency for those paints to flake off and thus, into the food if not a reputable brand. The one I bought for my sil that she registered for when she married (the Martha Stewart one from Macy's at $150.00) was recalled for that very reason, then they discontinued it and she had to buy another one altogether.

I love Ree's Kitchenaid Mixer...she had a give away and I wanted to win it so badly...yellow/orange with flowers. I did not win it and I probably will never own one either since the painted ones sell for $450-$700. but I can dream.

Watching Ree makes me want a nice dutch oven. I have a very nice set of heavy pots and pans and skillets but I don't have a dutch oven and the ones she has are so darn expensive...I see good old Wally World has a dutch oven now...think it would work?

I have her first cookbook and I love her show on Food Network. I have been about 50/50 with her cookbook recipes so far - - we either love them or don't like them at all. I love her lasagne recipe, and the cowboy spaghetti is delicious, too. I often try recipes from her website -- just made a half batch of her iced coffee concentrate to keep in my fridge and I love it.

Marilyn told me about the recipe on page 43, Best Grilled Cheese Ever, so I made it for my son on Friday. My goodness the best grilled cheese I have ever had, Kent loved it too. Thanks Marilyn for the tip, y'all need to try it, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Her brownies with mocha frosting.....to die for!!!!! The photo on page 222 is just what they look like and they are divine. I love that she says "call me excessive, but I really like to lay the icing as thick as the brownies themselves".....it works!!!!

I've made a few things out of the second cookbook. My husband and I made the onion-blue cheese sauce for our grilled steaks one night, and it was incredible. I also made her chicken enchiladas, and while they were ok, I kinda thought they were too much work for the end product. I made pizza last night using her dough recipe, and I loved it. It was incrediby easy.

I tried to make the coffee cream cake, but it fell apart when I tried to assemble it. I salvaged it by turning it into a trifle, and it was good.

Has anyone tried Ree's Red Velvet cake with the icing that she makes? I watched a rerun this morning...first time for me to see... and she made meatballs and greenbean casserole and red velvet sheet cake...I have the feeling when it cools off some, I will have to give all three dishes a try. But...with the heat...after working outside this morning...we will have bolo sandwiches with a big old slice of red tomatoe and chips with iced tea!

I've made several of her recipes and we've loved them all! I keep saying I'm buying a cookbook but have enough of them already and barely go thru them.

I love her show, cookbooks but don't forget about the book for children Charlie the Ranch Dog it is beautiful. I am going to try Ree's Lime Pickles in the new
cookbook.

I tried the Sloppy Joes recipe from the blog last night. They are to die for! I have never particularily cared for Sloppy Joes, but this recipe had even me going back for seconds. I loved the extra kick provided by the chili powder, Tobasco sauce and other spices. It adds a dimension that lacks in the store-bought canned sauces. We don't get the food network channel, so I'm going to have to find one of the cookbooks.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

I have both of her cookbooks. The second one has more "healthy" recipes than the first one. Of course I haven't tried all the recipes but all but one of them I tried was delicious. The one that got the thumbs down from the family was the mac and cheese in the first book. I love her, wish I had TV so that I could see her cooking show.
