I have a chest freezer and then the freezer on my Frig I was wondering if anyone had any creative storage ideas to keep it all organized we have part of a cow and now a whole pig coming. I keep having to dig and rearrange and now with more meat coming I would like to get ahead with organizing it all. Thanks for any and all ideas.

Why not can some of it? Then you don't need to worry about thawing it, just open a jar and make a meal.

plastic baskets that are square or rectangle, use differant colors for differant meat, i.e., beef, pork etc, then in each basket use a running list of contents, and put that paper in a ziplock, you can read it thru the bag to see whats in there...you can get cheap baskets at dollar stores, thrift stores, yard sales, etc...

I keep an inventory and my Hubby cut some boards that he put feet on for seperating things in the freezer with. It's not the best system or the prettiest, but it works well and was very cheap for us. We just used some scrap wood we had in the barn, so it was basically free.

I use boxes or totes. We are expecting a side of beef next week and I will be keeping ground beef in one box and steaks in another as well as roasts in another. I do keep a freezer inventory which helps tremendously so I am not digging for something I thought we had but didn't :) Now would be the perfect time for you to do that before all that meat comes.

When our meat does come in, my husband and I work together. He will unload and tell me what cuts and I will mark it down on our inventory. This is a good idea too, so we can see exactly how much meat a half or whole cow brings in and how long it lasts us.
