Hi Farmgirls. This probably a silly question, but what do you use pressure canners for? Is it just for meats? I am a veteran canner of jams, chutenys, pickles, etc but never used a pressure canner. Thanks for your help- I know my sisters will help answer this burning question

This is what I can in my pressure canner- Pork, chicken/broth, mushrooms, tuna, pinto beans, split pea soup, navy bean soup, spaghetti sauce, chili, black beans, red beans, green beans, corn, creamed corn, carrots, and glazed carrots. This year there will many more things added to the list but that sould give you some ideas. Before you start canning I agree you need to read the ball canning book.

Mary, at Walmart you can get the Ball Canning Blue Book that gives you a list of what needs to be canned how. It is usually found on the shelf with canning items. Lowes also carries the book in the Spring. You can also order it online. Hope that helps.

I like to do quick meals in my small pressure cooker. Porkchops, potatoes, onions & seasonings cook in just minutes instead of hour or so!

Oh, and at the bottom of the page it will say, "Older Entries" which will take you to more posts on canning and food processing, including canning green beans.

Mary, soups, broths, stews, chili, meats, sauces, corn, green beans and other low acid veggies, and anything else that is low acid. Go to my blog at the addess below and click on Canning and Food Processing at the right to see some uses for the canner. :-)
