I looked through a bunch of pie crust recipes and could not find any that didn't use shortening. So I created one that works without shortening. Please check it out at applesaucemom.blogspot.com. I would love to hear what you all think about not using shortening. The reason I don't want to use it is because most of it...meaning Crisco...has hydrogenated oils and TBHQ. The organic shortening was pretty expensive and I don't like to by stuff at the grocery for just one recipe. Anyway, what do you ladies think, have you ever made pie crust without shortening?

Now THAT looks yummy!! I am going to have to try that for Thanksgiving. I am not a big pumpkin pie person, but I think I could eat THAT. :-) I have made pie crust with a combo of butter and canola oil. It works great. I haven't tried the olive oil.

All of you recipes are wonderful. Would you mind if I put a link to your blog on my blog? :-)

Have you ladies tried MaryJane's pie recipe from the last issue of the magazine yet? It is amazing! We have been making it to go with our canned apple pie filling and it turns out great each time! It's in the fall issue, not the Christmas issue. I'll post the page number tomorrow. I took the magazine to work to show a friend.

I bake exclusively with butter and oils that are organic
I tell myself that I can eat that extra slice of pie and feel good about it often

No, seriously, it took me a while to learn to make pastry that isn't too tough and is light and flakey with butter, but it's soooooo worth it with the end results

Yeah, I did use butter in this recipe which I think is fine. But butte and shortening just seemed a little much...

Mmm... that looks yummy! (Actually, ALL your recipes look yummy!) I've used an all-butter recipe as well as organic shortening. I like both, but my guys are partial to the all-butter crust. I am totally liking your recipe, though - I might just give it a whirl as a surprise for the holidays! Thank you for sharing, Rebekah! :) - Nini

I've made one with just butter, and that was good, too.
