I'm looking for panrty recipes. Recipes that can be made from can or shelf items only. My family's current favorite is:
Taco soup
1 package taco soup seasoning
2-4 cups chicken broth
1 can corn
1 large can chopped tomato
2 cans of beans (I usually use 1 can black bean and 1 can pinto
about 1/4 cup dried onion.

I am working on a 3 month supply of meals that are pantry only meals. If I make this recipe now I add a pound of browned beef. The soup is great without the meat. Any recipes you can share is appreciated. Laura

My favorite is the following that my mom created:

1 box spanish rice mix (we like Zatarain's best because it has nice spices)
1 can black beans, undrained
1 can chopped tomatoes, undrained
1 cup frozen sweet corn (or canned corn, drained)
water

Following the instructions on the box for the amount of water and cooking directions, dump everything into a very large skillet (mine is 14") or a stockpot. Serve as tacos, burritos, chip dip, taco salad, or in quesadillas. Or just by itself! I like it with a little shredded cheese and sour cream. Maybe some tomatillo green salsa or regular salsa. My boyfriend likes it with hot sauce and sour cream. You can add leftover chicken or sliced sausage if you want. Ditto onions, green onions, or other veggies. Kale/collard greens are quite good, as is okra (but only if you add it at the very end - otherwise it gets slimy).

It's a super-easy recipe and I make it about once every six weeks. It makes a lot (feeds appx. 6 people), but the leftovers are good. It also only takes about 20-30 minutes from start to finish.

I love cupboard recipes, as I call them, but that headline made me look twice! Lol...

Oh, forgot fennel!! Crushed fennel is a must in pizza soup! (or italian chili, as some call it..;)

We do pizza soup sometimes...
It can be made with or without ground beef. (i prefer the beef!)
1package elbow macaroni
beef bouillon
1 can crushed tomatoes (or spagetti sauce)
1 can diced tomatoes
garlic, orgegano, onions (you can use the onion flakes, if you must.)
last but not least, pepperoni!!
serve with parmesean cheese on top:)

And on a more serious note, there's a small book out there called "A Man, A Can and a Plan"

It has super simple recipes, most of which come form pantry items, so try an Amazon search and maybe you can find it for dirt cheap

It's been dummed down for non-cooking men, so it also includes pictures of the name brand ingredients. Pretty clever

Not to digress...but I was all set for some really great recipes where you could cook in skivvies and not get burned!
Oh well

And hubby learned the hard way last night! He was browing ground beef and leaned too far into the pan and got a little burn on his tummy. That'l teach him to cook in Speedos! ANd yes, I'm serious. He is super skinny to begin with (is a bicycle rider) so he is one of those rare individuals who actually looks alright. So when he got burned, I said "So that's why they tell you not to cook nekkid"!

My Hubby said it's really not safe to cook like that without an apron on at least. You could burn the ta-tas!
