My husband loves orange breakfast rolls with the icing on top, but I'd rather make them from scratch than Pillsbury's stuff. Does anyone have a recipe that they've used & could share? Also, I love stories, so if there's a background story to it (like it was my great Aunt Edna's rolls), I love knowing that sort of info. Thanks

You can make a really nice orange frosting by simply substituting orange juice for the milk. I use sofened butter and powerdered sugar and a couple TBL of orange juice. Keep adding powdered sugar until it is the consistency you want.

Age only matters if you are wine or cheese.

Sheri, that sounds so fantastic!! I love knowing it's your grandma's recipe, too! (My grandparents died when I was young, so I don't have hand-me-down recipes) --this'll be great!! Hopefully Teresa will be back with her sweet roll recipe. I've never made sweet rolls (only cinnamon coffee cake... so if anyone needs a recipe for cinnamon coffee cake, then I'll post that

Here is the filling recipe my grandma always made - it doubles as filling and frosting and is pretty close to the pillsbury taste.

3 TBSP softened butter
1 TBSP grated orange rind
2 TBSP orange juice concentrate (frozen type undiluted)
1 tsp. orange extract
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar.

Use any sweet roll dough, roll like for cinnamon rolls. Use half for filling. After baking, spread with the other half as frosting while still warm. These are really good.

Blessings, Sheri

I make them with a basic sweet roll dough also, rolled and cut into 2 inch wide strips, brush with melted butter, then I spread them with orange marmalade, it is to die for.

My mother makes Orange Cinnamon Rolls but there is no cinnamon. She uses a basic Sweet Roll Dough, rolls out, brushes with melted butter and sprinkles with grated orange peel and coconut flakes. We loved these as children. I've made them myself a time or two. Don't know if this helps.
