Posted - Jun 08 2010 : 11:10:12 AM BASIL!!
I have become enamored with PESTO-
I have actually planted a Pesto herb bed---25 garlic plants and tons of basil-I only have to add my favorite pure olive oil and oh my.... Pine Nuts!!
What herb would you take to a deserted island??

I tried something similar and it made a very nice glaze with the honey---but I used Tarragon vinegar instead of Balsamic-
Hmmmm....Chocolate...I grew Chocolate Mint one year and it was DIVINE!!!

Posted - Jun 30 2010 : 5:21:05 PM haha@ Marly. With all that chocolate, sounds like you should be on a 'desserted' island! I too would have to choose basil. Although it's not a tea making herb, it's so versatile. Two of my favs, other than pesto, are a skillet chicken dish w/ basil, honey, balsamic vinegar & pine nuts all cooked together. The other is fresh chopped tomatoes, fresh chopped basil, olive oil, lemon juice & feta cheese (optional) ...like a salad. mmmmm!

Posted - Jun 30 2010 : 5:11:44 PM Is chocolate an herb? That's what I would want if I were stranded on a Deserted island. Lots of chocolate. Lots of brownies. However, if it has to be a true herb, I guess rosemary. LOL Marly

Posted - Jun 30 2010 : 4:37:38 PM Comfrey is my favorite healing herb. It's not used for cooking.... but it is always the first herb I think of when I think of herbs! If I had to choose cooking... I would probably go with garlic. Then... too many choices. =)

Posted - Jun 16 2010 : 09:07:41 AM In our colder north, I often have short lived growth with basil. What is hardy here, and I use for many things, is lemon thyme...tea, vinegrette, marinade for chicken etc... of course you didn't go into the climate on that island. ;0)

Posted - Jun 09 2010 : 06:48:47 AM Yes, Melody, basil!
But,... I would want the three varieties I've grown: lemon basil, cinnamon basil and regular.
Lavender or chamomile would be a close second. I love my calming herbs!

Posted - Jun 08 2010 : 8:08:23 PM .. a horrible recipe for those who LOVE pesto... its horrible because it is so sinfully mouth watering yumminess!... soften a package of cream cheese... sorry but I do it in a micro... warm it up so it is soft and creamy, add in pesto, to your desired taste. whip it all together so it is creamy and foamish... use it on yummy crackers or bagel chips! or celery sticks.. you get the idea. I promise you'll love this concoction!
my choice of herb would have to be Coriander/ Cilantro.
