Posted - May 11 2010 : 9:11:09 PM What do y'all usually eat for breakfast during the week. I usually have oatmeal, or cereal, or eggs. I usually include a piece of fruit with my breakfast. But, I need to find something else to eat for breakfast. I'm getting a bit bored with the same old things. LOL. Thanks for any ideas. Marly

Posted - May 16 2010 : 6:45:09 PM Linda: The mix of cranberries, pecans, nutmeg and cinnamon with the oats sounds super good. I'll give it a try. I am no longer eating a bland breakfast. Marly

Posted - May 16 2010 : 5:17:30 PM Is the cooked wheat anything like steel cut oats? They are very hearty. Steel cut oats are just the whole oat thats cut up a little bit. I mix in dried cranberries, pecans, nutmeg, cinnamon and slow cook until oats are done. Add milk and a little organic sugar......its really good. Some mornings I have eggs and turkey bacon with homemade wheat toast. Once in awhile whole wheat pancakes.

Posted - May 15 2010 : 5:52:34 PM Girls, I'm from New England and have never had grits with maple syrup on them, but it does sound good. I like my grits mixed with scrambled eggs. I have never heard of cooked wheat? Am I missing out on something really good??? I'm getting HUNGRY!

Posted - May 14 2010 : 10:16:06 PM I think boiled wheat is my favorite! My little ones like it boiled with dried cranberries, shredded coconut, and pecans. It's really amazing! Even my 18 month old likes it. She loves to pop the wheat between her teeth and giggle like crazy! It's so cute my DH made her some the other night just to watch her eat it! LOL!

Posted - May 14 2010 : 6:03:54 PM I love eggs! Since I have an abundance, I make things like crustless quiche (SOOOO easy). I got the recipe from Allrecipes.com. I also LOVE this Julia Child recipe where she first cooks the egg in a glass ramekin in a water bath, then bakes it...I am going to send you the video link :0) It takes a few times to figure out how NOT to overbake it, but it's delicious. And don't skimp on the butter, either!!! Lol.

Posted - May 13 2010 : 7:37:05 PM Teresa, your stacked biskit sandwiches sound so good! I am going to have to make biscuits in the morning!
My favorite breakfast is Eggs Benedict with a little extra lemon juice in the hollanaise sauce. It takes a little time but is so delicious!

Posted - May 13 2010 : 7:04:09 PM I make breakfast stacked biskits sandwiches, using dropped buttermilk biskits that are on the large side, sausage patty, fryed egg with cheddar cheese melted on it with a dab of mustard. They are filling and can take on the go. Then theres of course good old biskits and sausage gravy, grits with bacon and cheese, oatmeal with fruit, or if I'm feeling fat, cottage cheese with a drizzle of honey.

Posted - May 13 2010 : 6:56:36 PM But have you ever tried them all mixed up with sausage and scrambled eggs? I love maple syrup and I guess I'll have to try them that way. Although I have never put maple syrup on my corn before!

Posted - May 13 2010 : 07:39:51 AM I went to the little local farmer's market in Chattanooga yesterday and got grits made from Hickory King corn and fresh bacon with just salt and pepper. So that's what I just had for breakfast this morning. It was very good. And of course my eggs. I also got some fresh lettuce and spinach and a little fig tree.

Posted - May 12 2010 : 9:15:00 PM I can see where butter and black pepper would be tasty. I need to get some real grits and not the quick cook and (gasp) instant ones I use. |

Posted - May 12 2010 : 11:58:02 AM Robin, you sound like my hubby. When we first married silly man put sugar on his grits. I thought he was crazy but it seems like UN Southern people do that. Very strange.
All these things ya'll do sound very good. I am hungry right now. I might have breakfast for dinner!

Posted - May 12 2010 : 09:49:59 AM I make breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, onions, peppers, and a little salsa. They're delicious and since we have chickens it's a really good use for the tons of eggs that we have! You can chop up the veggies and refrigerate them so that in the mornings you just have to throw it into a pan and cook. It's super easy but it keeps you full for a long time.

Posted - May 12 2010 : 06:23:58 AM You mix the grits with the eggs? I always eat them like oatmeal...silly northerner! I see cheese and bacon flavored grits in the store. That must be why....I doubt they put milk and sugar on those. My little one loves grits. |

Posted - May 12 2010 : 06:18:24 AM When I was growing up in S. Ga. we had grits and scrambled eggs and sausage all mixed up together. It is too good. I still do that alot. The grits cannot be too thick. They have to be thin to mix it all up good. But talk about a filling breakfast. I have to eat breakfast or I get ill.
