Posted - Oct 06 2009 : 11:48:55 AM Not to ask a dumb question, but how do I best harvest the seeds from my giants? The heads are all droopy and they definitely look like they have had their time in the sun. How do I know they are ready to harvest? How do I harvest them? Thanks!

Posted - Oct 06 2009 : 09:22:20 AM I harvested my jumbo sunflowers last week. It was me against the blue jays! They were flying all around me, picking up the seeds that I sent flying onto the ground. I cannot *believe* how many seeds I have to plant for next year, I'm so excited!!

Posted - Oct 05 2009 : 10:40:45 PM I planted a lot of them this year.. and my chickens love them... silly girls... They will be a mainstay in my garden and yard as they are a "happy flower". I love that they come in all sizes.. I have short ones and giants.. and they are all so cute.... of course now I am busy pulling stocks and harvesting the seeds.. but well worth it.

Posted - Oct 05 2009 : 7:08:43 PM I love sunflower seeds. Shelled they make a great desert with vanilla ice cream, honey and sunflower nuts. I fixed this for a cooking show at the state fair in Minnesota while working for the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture.

Posted - Sep 12 2009 : 2:25:32 PM I have two brick flower gardens in front of the house. And generally nothing grows well in them. But this year, the sun flowers did awesome and they seems to love it there.. SO... happy for me, as they look so cheery in the front of the house.

Posted - Sep 12 2009 : 2:04:22 PM I LOVE sunflowers! They seem like such a "happy" flower! My desk where this computer is has a orange and yellow striped runner, a rooster and sunflower lamp, and sunflower bowls to hold the paperclips, etc. Then I have a big orange pitcher holding a bunch of sunflowers as a decoration. I enjoy sitting here...
