I'm so proud of it! I used it this morning to make big ol' pancakes. I need to get a bigger spatula tho. I read and reread the instructions to make sure I take care of it properly. The wooden thing you see on the right side is my real-Amish cutting board in the shape of a pig. I've never used it cuz I think it's too nice to use! So I use my cheap plastic cutting board instead. hehe...

i did a lovely roast chicken in my skillet last weekend and it was the best yet. Pre-heated the pan over the stove, then dropped the chicky in it and into the oven. It was the first time the skin didn't peel off when I turned it over! it was so juicy when I was tearing off the last bits to make a stock that my hands were dripping! hmmm hmmm. served that with an arugula, pine nut, currant bread salad. Zuni Cafe recipe and the cast iron made it even better!

That's an awesome looking pan. Can't beat the way things cook in them. Don't know why I ever gave them up before. I recently found my pan at a thrift store and it gets plenty of use also. Happy cooking.

Your new pan looks just like the Lodge pan I bought several years ago! Same design, but I got mine at Cabela's. I have several pans in various sizes, too.

Winona - I agree with all of the comments - I have several pans in various sizes that were my mothers - I don't know if I could cook without them. You can't beat fried chicken in a cast iron pan. It is very important as several have noted to keep your pan(s) seasoned. My grandmothers and mothers advice was to save bacon grease and use that to wipe down the pan from time to time. I find this better than cooking oil - but that is just a habit I have practiced. I know over time you will develop your own care habits. Enjoy!

Winona, great find! You will love cooking all sorts of things in it. They hold heat so well. I, too, have several sizes and use them almost exclusively.
I bid you "good cookin".

make sure you keep it seasoned.when you store it wipe it down with cooking oil to keep it seasoned.when you wash it dry thoroughly and then pour a little oil in it and wipe it down real good.should do well for you for quite a long time.

Oh, you'll love using the skillet for many things other than pancakes. I have several sizes and styles and I use them all. I have a special one that was my Grandma's and a large oblong fryer and a chicken fryer from my Mom. Somehow we've collected quite a few over the years.

I do like the handle on yours and it looks well seasoned.
Have fun cooking with it!

Brand spanking new from Walmart! It looks old? Maybe how the camera flash reflects? Sorry about my stove but the flash brought out little spots that you can't see in natural light. Right now we're living in our 5th wheel while looking for a place...so please excuse stove! :-) Maybe I better get to wiping! hehehe...

Don't ya just love cast iron? It looks like it's an older one. None of mine have that extra handle. I'm glad you found that.

Nothing better to cook pancakes in, and that beauty even has the hand hold on the opposite side, a genius design!

Gorgeous! I got a big old spatula that's like 5" across just for making pancakes. I love it!
