Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 08:18:31 AM I am looking for a super simple crock pot recipe for my ham. We are not a pinapple clove family. Its a 7-8 pound, butt cut. How much water do I use??? None of the recipes tell me. Do I cover it? Or just enough to cover the bottom half? Please help! How would you cook in the crock pot?

Posted - Apr 07 2009 : 06:16:08 AM Yes Kathy, rootbeer. You should have seen my family's faces when they saw me put it in the first time. I think they thought I was loony! But when they tried it they really liked it. I've been making my ham this way ever since!

Posted - Apr 07 2009 : 05:11:43 AM Erin, Rootbeer? That sounds different. I seen one that used cola or gingerale. I have always used the oven but his year I need to make a turkey also. Thanks everyone!

Posted - Apr 07 2009 : 12:21:01 AM I never thought about doing a ham in the crockpot. What a great way to have it cooking while at church on Easter Sunday. I bet the root beer would make it delicious!! Thanks for the tip.

Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 10:00:09 AM I always cook my ham in the crockpot. This is the simplest recipe ever and gets rave reviews from my family. Are you ready? All I do is place my ham in the crockpot and add a two liter bottle of rootbeer until it just about covers it. Thats it. Nothing more!

Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 08:24:36 AM Hi Kathy!
I once cooked a ham in my crockpot with the cloves and the brown sugar glaze that came with it. I didn't know I needed to put water in the crock pot so it only cooked in it's own juices and it turned out FANTASTIC. So I would say maybe only put a cup of water in at most. The ham has a lot of juice and you don't want boiled ham, after all!
