Belle - I am finding that it is a mid-western term for green peppers. Is she (or her family) from the Indiana or neighboring area?

I have a really simple one but get rave reviews.

1 # hamburger
1 cp minute rice
1/2 cp bread crumbs
1 egg
salt / pepper to taste

mix above into 2 " balls.

Put into a large stew pot. Cover with canned Tomato Juice. Put bells on top of tomato juice. Cook on medium/low heat for 45 min.

Serve.

I make stuffed peppers and freeze them each year so we can enjoy them through winter. My husband does not like rice in foods so I just use my meatloaf recipe to stuff them. Also, if you have a great deal of the peppers, you might want to try my great grandmother's "Mangoes". They are peppers stuffed with cabbage and seasonings, then packed in jars with a brine. If you are interested, I will give you her recipe.

Oh, I guess I should tell you to add salt to your taste. I don't add salt to anything so I often forget to tell folks who like salt to do that.

My recipe is 1 lb ground beef, onion, garlic, cooked rice a little tomato juice. Stuff the peppers and top with diced tomatoes and pour the juice from tomatoes over and around stuffed peppers.

Story: When my Mom canned her tomato juice, she would can several qts with bell pepper halfs in the jar of juice. This was before freezers and a good way to preserve peppers for stuffed bells. When she fixed her stuffed bells, she would pour the juice over the peppers and they would bake in the juice. I freeze my peppers now but I have canned them like Mom did just because.

I don't really have a recipe (like my salsa) but:

1lb. ground beef, browned with onions, pepper and garlic
cooked rice
corn
shredded cheddar cheese

I mix it all together, except cheese, after the meat is done and add a bit of salsa. Stuff the peppers and bake at 350 for about 20-30 minutes. Turn off oven, add cheese on top of stuffed peppers, close oven door for 2-5 minutes. That's it.
