Posted - Mar 27 2008 : 08:25:27 AM This morning we built a small fire at our outpost. A cast iron kettle filled with pinto beans is simmering on the fire. I added some onion, garlic and gray salt. The smell is wonderful. A little later I will make some fresh greens sauted in olive oil with garlic and a touch of pepper flakes. Cornbread will round out the meal.

We are having beans and cornbread tonight, too! But mine are navy beans with garlic and thyme. Hopefully thats a good combination. Alas, it is pouring down rain here so no kettle on the fire for us. The crockpot will have to do. Yours sounds like much more fun! |
