Posted - Mar 04 2018 : 4:29:36 PM Hi Farmgirls, I'm submitting my application for this merit badge and want to share some pics of some of my best friends.
I grew up on a farm and have ALWAYS had pets, most especially dogs and cats. The only time I didn't was when I was a college student, living on campus in the dorm.
I had hoped to find a pic of our pet llama, Rocky, but I'm not able to locate one. But he was a pet too. He was such an interesting fellow but in the summer of 2013 he was killed by a mountain lion (yes, we have them in our area)
This is "Skye", our calico who lived with us for 16 years and in December 2012 she disappeared. We believe a predator got her because she was in good health and still active . . and we have LOTS of predators. She was a quiet, sweet, friendly kitty. This is a pic of her getting in the shade of one of my glamping suitcases!
This is "Silky" the tortoiseshell kitty we have now. She's 5 years old, fun, funny, very active, playful and very much a people cat. She has been such fun!
This is "Bramble", my Australian cattle dog that is my BEST pal. She's great working with our Longhorn cows, but she's such my walking partner, goes glamping with my daughter and me, is super smart, affectionate and friendly. What a blessing she has been
Thanks for letting me share! These are just a few of the "best friends" I've had in my life! CJ

Posted - Mar 10 2018 : 08:00:08 AM Thanks Debbie! Bramble is now 14 years old . . . slowing down but doing well. I don't think you've met Silky . . . she is so much fun! And, of course, Rocky is no longer with us . . .sad! They are sweeties, for sure! CJ
P.S. You even met some of our Longhorns . . . we're down to five now and the steer goes to the butcher in a month.

Posted - Mar 09 2018 : 3:19:52 PM Just FYI, the difference between a calico and a tortoiseshell is that a "tortie" has NO white on them. If there is white then they are a calico. CJ

Posted - Mar 09 2018 : 11:54:15 AM CJ, I just spoke with my mom and she had a Calico cat when I was young girl. She passed away when I was quite little, so I don't remember her much. That must explain why I'm drawn to a Calico!

Posted - Mar 09 2018 : 07:52:16 AM MY favorite "color" of cats is calico or tortoiseshell. Skye was calico and Silky is a "tortie". Bramble has brindling colors on her nose and ears which makes her more interesting in color as well! CJ

Posted - Mar 05 2018 : 11:47:09 AM Love your pets CJ! Skye is absolutely beautiful! I'm not much of a cat person, but if we ever got one I would love one like her. I'm happy to hear you have Bramble in your life and that she your best friend. Great job on completing this badge!
