Posted - May 04 2016 : 10:59:13 AM Brian, is there a way we "can" use our jelly/jam making skills and recipes to earn the three levels of a merit badge? I have searched the list of merit badges and don't see anything touching on this. "Putting food by" mentions meat and produce. Would berries and wild foraging (violets, dandelions) qualify as produce? Or would this require a new merit badge? If you see this...thank you, in advance for your consideration!

Posted - May 05 2016 : 11:09:26 AM Hi Judith,
If you are using our ChillOver powder for your jams & jellies you could earn all 3 levels of the ChillOver ComeOver badge (http://www.farmgirlsisterhood.org/badges-fk-chill-over.asp)
The Putting Away for Winter Expert level (http://www.farmgirlsisterhood.org/badges-gg-putting-away-for-winter.asp) does refer to canning, I would classify anything you preserve in a can as produce. :) There's still the canned meat or dry jerky requirements on the expert level.
The Self-Sufficiency Intermediate and Expert levels also have canning mentioned. (http://www.farmgirlsisterhood.org/badges-fk-self-sufficiency.asp) While it says "Apple Pie Filling" for the Intermediate, we are happy to have our Sisterhood members offer substitutions. :)
This actually got me to thinking. For the Stitching & Crafting section we have the Nellie Make-do and Nellie Will-do (http://www.farmgirlsisterhood.org/badges-sc-nellie-will-do.asp) badges which are more "general" rather than specific projects. How do you think we could write something like that up for the Farm Kitchen or Garden Gate sections? We're always looking for new badge ideas!
