Posted - Oct 22 2015 : 7:57:05 PM I am excited to begin working on my merit badges and sharing my experiences with everyone! After much debating I was finally able to pick the top 4 badges I plan to accomplish first! I chose….
1.Pampered Pets (Outpost) -It’s important to me that my pets are healthy and will live a long happy life. Knowing what is best for them will allow me to enhance their life.
2. Bread Making (Farm Kitchen) -I have always enjoyed cooking and now look forward to a better way of cooking.
3. Embroidery (Stitching and Crafting) - Would love to make something special for my baby boy just like my Grandma Butters made for me.
4. Water Conservation (Cleaning Up) - I love the idea of helping save the planet as well as help me save money on my bill.
With that in mind, what merit badges do you fellow farmgirls plan on accomplishing first? Or working towards right now? Any of them hold a special meaning that drives you to accomplish one over another?
Much luck and enjoyment in your merit badge experiences!

Posted - Nov 10 2025 : 9:13:19 PM Howdy folks! I’ve been radio silent but plugging along on my badges. I scored a ton of free lumber, metal, and cardboard which I’ve been using to build needs for my garden (ones easier on my back). I planted tons of brassicas and carrots and set up permanent hoops with bird netting. Will be easier to toss on poly covers for winter and shade cloth for summer.

I also took Krista’s advice and found a couple of simple kits for my beginner macrame badge. Still getting the hang on the tension but having fun!

Posted - Oct 04 2025 : 12:59:12 PM I just applied for the intermediate level of Leave It Better Than You Found It. Expert level may need to wait til Spring as Fall weather is not optimum in getting folks out to pick up litter. We will see. Plus, I am not great at recruiting folks. But maybe I can do that on line here and on face book. Thanks for the forum to think out loud.

Posted - Aug 25 2025 : 7:58:27 PM I read a wonderful book titled Grandma Gatewood Walks. It is the story of Emma Gatewood. She walked the Appalachian Trail start to finish from May-September. Here are five things I learned about her. 1.Emma Gatewood was the first female that walked the Appalachian Trail. 2. She was 67 the first time she walked the trail. 3. She walked the trail 2 more times, once more at the age of 69, another walk through. 4.She also walked the 2,000 mile Oregon Trail. 5. She was the mother of 11 children and after 33 years of marriage, she divorced her horribly abusive husband.

Posted - Aug 23 2025 : 7:00:26 PM I love your pictures, Debbie, especially the chicken. Some friends of ours have a gorgeous oil painting of a rooster that they have up on display in their barn. It looks wonderful there. It's hung really high so no animals can get at it. I'll be looking forward to seeing your oil paintings. I'm looking forward to getting back to working on badges once I'm finished a big sock spinning project.
