This may look good from where you sit but it is really bad. Lots of leaks and it needs a lot of TLC. I have remodeled houses and one was vintage but I don't have a clue about trailers. I spent some time in one as a child but I have not been around them as an adult. I don't know a thing about this one except that it used to be parked at a lake and has not been used in ages. It was full of yellow jackets, all but one was dead. But the price was right, free. What do you think, should I go ahead and jump in?

Actually the floor is good but there was dryrot under the rear area of the trailer. Just the trim pieces on the wheel well area and the curved areas. Gracie's (Katmom) husband, Gary, is working on the same trailer so he is going to cut the 1-1/2" 4' strips I need to laminate to make the curves. Good to have someone a step ahead of me on this exact trailer! :D I have been working on a quilted wallhanging for my gd for her graduation this weekend, so nothing has gotten done for over a week. But I will be back at her soon. P. S. I posted a pic of the finished quilt on my blog.

Oh, Karen, WOW! You are a brave lady! What have you done on it this week? Are you replacing the floor? Is that why you "opened the can"? And will the use rivets to put it back together?

Ican't wait to see how everybodies turn out. I already want a Scotty. Best not let dh hear that. I posted a few pics on blog and will post more as I complete more. Love seeing the work you girls are doing. Grace - would love to see yours. I do need to learn how to put pics on here.

Gracie and I think we have split personalities with all the wonderful ideas we get we just want to go in all directions! There are so many personalities in me I don't even know where to start! This camper is going to let me be retro 40-50's since that won't really fit my home. I could easily do lots of other styles too!
The day I tore off the back of the trailer I was approached by an older lady with a cane coming down my driveway. She had a flat on the highway right in front of the house, she asked, "Is your man around?" I said, nope, no man here. She looked me up and down as I crawled out from under the rear of the trailer and just smiled and said she had a flat and used to change the all the time but now at 80 she just couldn't. She came inside and we called for help and I told her I just changed one once to say I did and let it go after that. She still looked me up and down and I do believe she was real surpised I was working on the trailer by myself or she just couldn't figure me out. :D It all kinda' made me smile the rest of the day. I could tell she was a real farmgal, maybe put out to pasture a bit but we joked about our memory problems and I think we may have formed a bit of a bond. Afterall, us farmgals need to stick together.

I hope to be able to get a little camper like that one day soon. I can so see decorating one with retro cowgirl/1950's themed items. Have fun with your camper.

I totally know what you mean. I just got to visit Katmom and her trailers, what a fun visit! Her twin trailer (to mine)is totally down to it's bones! A skeleton! I am amazed at the brazen people I know! lol Yes, that is you, Gracie! Her Scottie is absolutely adorable in turquoise and white, all cleaned up and ready to go on her SOTF outing June 4th. I can't wait to go and visit them in Spokane to see all the vintage trailers. Gracie is a rolling rock with no moss, she been moving rocks and bordering all her lavender, trees and garden spaces, like this woman needs another project! No weight lifting for her, she already done it all. :D She has curtains all completed in a Hawaiian theme for the scottie, with yoyos no less. A beautiful banner for the SOTF and she's collected lots of 'thrifts' to fill her trailer and more. I could have spent the whole day just oogalling (is this a word?). Mostly, it was just so fun to see all her endeavors.

Karen, I am so in awe of your very own restoration abilities! I know that your camper is going to turn out to be so cool! I would have to be honest and say that I am not enjoying the process of fixing ours. It is not that I am hating it, but I just want to get the dang thing livable so that I can take it somewhere else and enjoy it.

When we first started tearing it out we had very elaborate plans for redoing it, but now I don't care if it is just an empty shell with air-conditioning (gotta have THAT). I want to go to the beach! HA!

Keep up the good work, Nikki(and hubby)! Enjoy doing it as you go. I have decided to slow the process and take more patience in the job and I think I will remember to have fun while I am doing it. This is where I tore out the cabinet above the sink. I am going to reface it and make a new bottom for it. Of course, remove the rotten paneling. But I am stuck because I don't see a connection for the propane stove. The line runs up to the back of the stove but I am not sure I can get in there. Mayve I will grab a mirror and see what I can see. :D I got the door fitted yesterday and decided to leave the wood in place (for the window) for now until I get the glass made. I have to keep the bees out. Sure wish this had a screen door, I am going to try and see if I could put one on. My Makita died a final death yesterday so I must get another one today, I can't live without one. lol

I know, I am really into pictures, too. I am never satisfied with the amount of photos in magazines. LOL! I always want more.---I can't believe that you have never done that kind of repair. You are doing a great job!

I am not sure of the population of my town. I would guess that it is around 5,000 but it has been growing pretty steadily. Guess what! The sun just came out! That is certainly a change of pace from what we have been having for the past several weeks!

I am going to put the second coat of clear on the camper floor today! Lovin' Man was able to hook up the power yesterday and he made the air-conditioner work! YAY! I didn't believe that it would. One less thing, as Forest Gump would say.

Happy camper fixin' up for you, Karen!

Thanks, I have never done this before and the new paneling was warped so it was really trying my patience but gluing it and clamping was a good plan, even if it wasn't bowed as any moisture would have tried to warp it, as it is so flimsy. Tin can for sure! Good for you, keep trying the tools, I remember the summer I tried the Makita power screw driver I thought I would die as it was sooooo heavy! I sure didn't last very long....Ha! I really don't think about the weight anymore. Thanks for your photos too, I guess I just love to see the pics, no reading......lol

This is the before of my trailer door And this is the gluing process...tomorrow I cut out the window and put all the metal edges back on. Window goes to the glass man as the wind blew over a ladder and it broke one of the glass slats.

What a sweet ride! The bones are sooooo good! Wow, you are going to town! It is going to be super nice when you get it done. I am still working on the door. I took it all apart and got the rotten wood out and got a new piece of paneled wood to replace the dryrotted piece and it is clamping now. Small town hardware store is hard to shop for the nails and screws one needs to do the job, darn! When I get started I hate to leave for anything! It gets so frustrating when you can't get the things you need. I had to go through my nail/screw tin just to get enough paneling type nails with some kind of head. Ah, well, I guess since I have been at it since 6 am I will take a siesta as it is so hot.

I think once you get the leak points cleared up you are good to go. You will obviously find lots of rotten wood in there, but it was a good thing you had vinyl under the refrigerator.

I think you will do well.

Hey, Karen! Here is a photo of the original gaucho in the Airstream.

And here is what it looks like now that we tore everything out, replaced the floor and stained it.

You can see that there are lots of wires hanging out and the whole inside needs to be painted. It is a work in progress! I am totally going to use it as a beach house and just keeping fixing it more and more as the years go by. Poor Lovin' Man started working on it and then started searching the real estate ads at the beach. Apparently, he would rather buy a beach house than work on the camper.

Here is a photo of how nasty it was behind the refrigerator. That black shape to the right is where the fridge was. ICK!
