That's thoughtful of you, Katmom, to make tags for the trees.

Wishing you luck Katmom, although I don't think you'll need it with your green thumb.

Currently. at this ranch we have 2 cherries 1 grafted apple, a walnut and 1 unidentified tree...
Unfortunatley we have no clue what type of cherries these trees are, they are smaller then a Stella cherry and the grafted apple tree has reds on one side and greens on the other side,, the birds are quit happy, problem is,, they don't like to share! lol!
As for the walnut, it is fairly young and has not produced yet, so we don't know if it is a English or Black walnut,, time will tell.
As for the unidentifiable fruit tree,, the fruit look like little mini apples, but are hard as a rock and the 'seed' look like a cherry pit.. I am going to check with a few Master gardeners over here to see if they might have a clue..

We do have plans to expand our uber mini orchard.. but I plan to make hammered copper label tags for the trees so the next generation will know what they are.
(the owner had passed away and we bought the house from his daughter who didn't know much about any of the trees)

Well, wish me luck this year...and that mama nature is kind to us... lol!

We have service berries and choke cherries on the other side of the house...

Maryjane, Stella's are great propergator trees and are very hardy. We had planted several cherries, peach, Asian pear and 3 types of apple on at our last mini ranch,, they did quit well, (my Rainier cherries didn't produce very well).. but alas, the family that bought our house/mini ranch did not share our love of gardening and not only let the mini orchard die off but they totally obliterated my enclosed garden area and only about 1/3 of the lavender field is left :>(

but ,, it is theirs to do with as they please,, I am just sad, hubby and I put a lot of hard work and sweat into our old property.

We are making up for it here at this slightly larger ranch,, planting, pruning (Lots of pruning) clean up, the house and property..
We believe in 'footprints' and want to leave a good 'footprint' were ever we go or live...

MaryJane your new Cherry trees sound wonderful. Oh the delicious future pies, jams, and fresh cherries to enjoy too!! Happy Birthday tomorrow on Monday. We had thunder, rain and sleet first thing this morning in San Margarita. It was a chilly Jubilee Weekend Sunday for this Farmgirl. I could have used a campfire !!

MaryJane,
That sounds beautiful. It looks like it could grow quite well in this area. What a great tree for Jubilee!

Thank you Denise and Sara! I also planted two of these decorative trees today:

They stay fall colored all summer long. Anyone ever planted one of them? They grow 5 to 6 feet tall.

"Amber Jubilee tree is a relative newcomer in the ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius) family. Few shrubs are easier to grow than Ninebark. This North American native can handle just about anything you can throw at it. Unless you're planting in beach sand, it will grow in your soil."

And:

"Amber Jubilee was selected for its striking foliage, in glowing tones of orange, yellow, and gold. Rounded and dense in habit, this shrub with its bold array of colors will stand out in your garden. Delicate white blooms are produced in spring, and fall foliage is highlighted with tones of red and purple, making this ninebark appealing all season."
Hardy to -50°F
Maximum Elevation: 8,000 ft.

Wouldn't it be nice to celebrate Jubilee in Italy! Hope everyone is enjoying good weather and happy cheer for Jubilee.

Hubby and I just finished planting two sweet cherry trees. My honeybees were all over the little blooms that had already developed while in the nursery, so who knows? Maybe I'll get a few cherries off them this year. One of the trees is called a Stella, after my granddaughter no doubt. Anyway, that's how we're going to think of our Jubilee tree going forward.

We're planning some campfire time this evening and then we'll plant more Jubilee trees tomorrow along with a picnic near Paradise Ridge where all the wildflowers are in bloom right now. I'll be packing my wildflower picnic quilt for sure, cheese, bread, all the usual along with some of Ashley's plum jam. And the last of some marmalade jam, a b-day gift from Florida:)

Happy Jubilee weekend everyone from San Margarita, Italy. I am in a small coastal town along the western Mediterranean coast. It is quite beautiful and scenic here!! It sort of reminds me of south Florida communities along the Gulf side where the water is much calmer than the Atlantic side. I hope everyone is enjoying a little celebration of our MJF community . We have so many friends and good conversations here together.
