Thanks, Karen! I can use all the encouragement that I can get. My craft room is in a real state of confusion. Every time I go in there, I try to put something else away or organize one small part of it. It is looking better, and I am becoming more successful as the days move on. This are getting finished or added to the UFO list. Things are getting put into bags so that I know what is where. I got some overdoor hangers to help organize projects in progress. they really seem to be helping because I can see what I need to work on without having to dig through boxes, bins, or piles of stuff.

I have really been getting into sewing again! I have been working on my UFOs and getting things completed. Yippee! It is so eye-opening when I realize that I was sometimes only 15 minutes from completion of a project when I put it away!!! Frustrating, too! I have not been able to use some things because I was only a few minutes from finishing them! ARRRGGGG!! Now when I work on something, I try to finish it immediately!

Marie, do not be anxious! I can promise you that you will be the only one who would know if you messed something up. That is the beauty of handmade. No 2 things The same. The mold of society now is so unrealistic and actually unhealthy. You got this! You are brave and can do amazing things!

Many of my pieces need small fixes. I'm just too anxious to do them because I want them to look good or perfect or for some other reason. Lately, I have tried convincing myself that I can do it and all will be well. The trend of visible mending helps me feel more impowered to just "let it show".

The bag that I pictured above took me about 5 years to finish. I had a pattern which I didn't always trust, and I started it over several times because if the start isn't right nothing else would be. I also realized that I had inadvertently added width on the band just before the straps so that it looked as if it were "fanning" out. That also was frogged and redone. I am now making another one in yellow and will take what I have learned from this one. It is going somewhat faster now.

I guess all I can say is: Be brave. Step out of the familiar. Take risks.

Yes, that is I.

Only 164 on your UFO list, Marie? WOW! I am sure I have more than that.

Many of my UFOs this year are for clothing items I have plans to re-make. That includes making a skirt from an oval tablecloth, adding a ruffle to a too-short skirt, finishing the strip-quilted sweatshirt jacket (it just needs binding), and adding vintage embroidered pieces to a denim jacket, among others.

I have finally finished piecing the quilt top for the quilt I have been working on forever it seems! It is a Quilt Of Valor for my husband's uncle who was a Navy Seal, The Bullfrog when he retired, and highly decorated.
I am getting it ready for quilting. I am new to longarm quilting, so it probably won't be perfect! It will, however, be quilted with the utmost love and respect for his service! I will post photos when it is completed.

Marie, I took the first six on my list and rolled one of my Yahtzee dice. That was how I got started! It's fun to see the groups of six get crossed off. . .then on to 6 more!

HA! HA! I have 164 on the list at this moment. I plan on trying to cut it by one-third for the Intermediate Level. I may put some of them in the trade thread.

This is my submission for the UFOs Beginning Badge.

The bags and bins of unfinished projects – planned and not executed, started and almost finished, half-finished, mending – were out of control. They were everywhere – the living room, dining room, bedroom and in the deep, dark dungeon of the basement storage room along with boxes and boxes of craft supplies, fabric and yarn. Sorting all this would be a large job.

I started with UFOs residing in living spaces. I put each one in separate bags, named them and entered the name, type of craft, purpose, supplies needed, what stage of completion, where it is located, the goal of the project once it is finished, and the date I finished the project.

The spreadsheet is now an Xcel workbook with tabs called Current UFOs, Mending and Finished. I am completely happy with this set up and find it very helpful as I can sort the list in a variety of ways. It is a useful database.

I didn’t get to the basement storage room until some people broke into the building, went into the basement, and stole whatever they could find. They got into my storage room because it wasn’t locked. How disappointed they must have been to find almost nothing except fabric, yarn and clothes that needed mending. I received permission from the HOA to place my boxes in the laundry room and go through the entire contents of every box. I picked up some fresh boxes from my job and went to work.

As I removed the contents of the boxes, I sorted everything into Keep, Donate and Toss piles. Three large tubs of yarn were donated to a charity which makes hats for people who need them. Ten yards of felt, a small pile of kits and other supplies I no longer needed were donated to a quilt shop for their fundraising event. I threw away very little, mostly broken or damaged things I couldn’t fix.

Next, I sorted all I wished to keep into boxes and bins in categories. The largest categories were Fabric, Yarn, Mending, and Projects. Other smaller categories were Stationary/Office Supplies, Macramé, Crochet Thread, and Craft Supplies. All the boxes are now labeled on three sides and neatly stacked in the storage space. If I need to find something, it should take me less time than before I culled and sorted everything.
