Hi farmgirls, I wanted to pass along a link to make these little pin cushions, I made two this evening - a great way to use up scraps.

Can you spot the imposter?

Hi Grace it is Grace
Don't you LOVE your name? Thanks for the kind words about the silk cocoon necklace. I have made many items from those wonderful little homes. I also smile everytime I dye them because they are never the same. My boys wanted me to raise silk worms but like you Mulberry leaves are not easy to come by here and the work involved just did not fit our life. I wished more people (kids especially) knew about them because when I teach about these marvels I try to get people to understand the hard work this little creature goes thru to make something that most never consider when wearing silk. We take for granted the hard work of many - we need to appreciate everyone's gifts and talents.

Thanks again for looking at may work.

Grace (Gerber)
just looked at your pic's...what a clever idea for the used silkworm cacoons. The necklaces are lovely.
As a former pre-school teacher,,,,I wish I had thought of using the cast off cacoons for craft projects...
After 10 years of hunting down Mulberry leaves and trying to find homes for the newly emerged moths,,, It never occured to me to save & dye the cacoons...oh duh!
You are so talented.

For those of you looking for a pin cushion pattern since the one on Martha Stewart's page is now gone. Here is a tutorial on one that I found and it looks pretty good also.

I did make them but drat if I didn't think ahead and print out the instructions! However - 6x10 does sound awful familar... maybe I'll make one up tonight and if it works, that way we'll know for sure!

EDITED! - I just whipped up another tomato and the dimensions are 10x5! It worked into a nice plump 'mater.

can someone who has made these please let us know the dimensions of the rectangle. I am looking in my mag collection for the instructions, I know it is in here somewhere. I know these are so easy, sew the ends together, then the bottom, stuff, running stitch around the top, stitch around the outside and up through the middle to make the dimples in the sides, and then the leaves on top. why did martha move this page? probably worried about competition from maryjane. who has got the dimensions of the rectangle?

I love the little strawberries, I did those a few days ago, a bunch of them and put them in a little wooden basket, totally cute. Good job for posting them.

I cant find the tomatoes either, and there I was going to make a few, but I did find some strawberry pin cushions that are really cute too....

I brought the pattern up when this was first posted, but now it is no longer on martha's site. Was that a 10 in by 6 in rectangle to start with?

You may have to search through all of the pages on Martha Stewarts website to find it.

I just made one, it's too cute! I still need to add the "leaves", but the rest of it is done. They stitch up fast!

Thank you so much ladies! I'm glad you enjoyed them.
As to the stuffing, I just used what i had around, some poly stuffing wrapped around some scraps. They would probably work better with some wool/cotton batting though. They are a little on the light side.

Nancy Jo, a victorian one sounds great. Some of the girls on my other sewing board are using silk scraps, and making fancy beaded leaves. Can't wait to see yours when it's done.

Oh Meggie SEW cute! I'm a nut for sewing "accessories". The best pattern I've seen for these! Leave it to Martha, huh? You did a great job, and I love your photo with the real deal-you're sew clever!!
Nancy, can't wait to see your version!
Thanks for sharing Meggie!

I think I will go for more the Victorian look and use a a rich looking material with maybe a bit of bling on top. I'm not real sure on the instructions on how to gather the top.
