Had an extra 20 minutes this afternoon...

It's a t-shirt cotton that I thrifted this week and a remnant of some previously thrifted fabric of unknown materials. I love how they go without going, you know? It used French seams and then topstitched for sturdiness. I left the hem raw because it really works with the skirt. The waist has a draw string (my favorite for patchy skirts.)

Do you mean your lovely shiney hair? Baking soda and ACV, what is it and how do you do it? I am interested due to a recent skin itching problem that seems to occur mostly after I shower and shampoo, even though I am now using Melaleuca non chems for soap and schampoo and conditioner. Plus seeing a Kaiser Allergist who tells me I am not allergic to anything, it is internal with my nerve endings just going off on me whenever they please or do not please. My blood tests for foods were negative so I take antihistamines and another thing that the internet says will make me gain weight, huh that is like 12 lbs so far since November. 8wks. I am looking for all natural ways to start living and stop this random unbearable itching all over. The meds do help but I still randomly itch and run for more antihistamine. I open the capsule and put the powder right on my tongue, yuk, but in about 10 minutes it begins to let up and gradually go away until next time it surprises me! I quit showering daily and sponge bathe now, but my hair I do in the shower, its below my shoulders so showering is easier for hair. I did not mean to do or day alll this I was just excited about what your cute picture said under it.
By the way I too like your skirt, very creative and yes the fabrics do great together!

Tasha,

You are my hero! If only I could find the time to learn, I have a sewing machine but I am a complete novice and I have a 6 month old. That skirt is exactly the type of thing I'd love to do.

Do you mix the vinegar and baking soda or apply them separately?
GaiasRose Posted - Jan 23 2007 : 06:42:46 AM
ACV is apple cider vinegar.

Rob has the day off today and will be helping me with getting products ready for the Sustainability Fair, so when he gets back from his errand running, I will have him photograph the skirt on me.

Tasha,
Put a full picture of the skirt on your blog so we can see the whole thing. All the pictures on your blog are so nice. Kids are really growing since you first started posting.

Thank you Thank you!! I am going to look for some material this weekend. I will let you all know how it goes!!!

Okay lots to respond to

first, thank you thank you for your loverly comments. I wore the skirt for only a little while yesterday, but plan to wear it again today.

The drawstring is just simple white cording. Sometimes I use thick hemp twine and some beads.
It is A-line cut, which, catscharm, is very simple. you just cut an A more or less in the fabric depending on the spin you want of the skirt. The spin is how big around the bottom of your skirt is. Just make sure you arecuting enough to be too big when you don't have it drawn into your waist, if you are doing a draw string that is. It is very easy. I used French seams because I prefer them over my serger. I think they look cleaner. I don't like my serger. I am thinking of selling it.

Megan, I dooooo sell them, but they sell better inthe Summer among the hippie crowd. I have quite a few things that are already made and I am working at building up my stock for the Summer. I sold quite a bit last Summer and did a lot of custom stuff as well.

Karin, I can't believe I didn't have socks on. I usually do. My feet must have had a really hot spell at the moment!

Love it, Tasha - new skirts are on my list of to-dos - the ever-growing list that never seems to shrink! It's so much fun, creating something out of next to nothing, isn't it? Gives me a great feeling of satisfaction - plus helping the environment by recycling clothing rather than buying something new. I bought a lovely dress for $2, which I wore for Christmas Day, after a little tweaking here and there, and everyone loved it. How do you do the drawstring waist - with cording?
Best wishes,
Jayne

Is the top a drawstring type of thingy? Could you give me some pointers, I have never sewn before. I thought this would be a easy project to start me off with.

Love your skirt Tasha! You do work magic with your sewing machine. My girls love their twirly skirts too! I browsed through your blogs. Your photo of you at 27 is stunning. You are so young and beautiful and your skin is perfect and glowing! I loved looking through your window at the snow up there! Do you have much snow on the ground?
