I picked this up couple of years ago with some knitting supplies at a thrift store. I haven't yet learned to knit. Can anyone tell me what this is used for. It is nice piece of wood. No scratches, marks.

Oh, yes. I used one to keep my threads/colors separated and ready when I did crewel work in the 60's and 70's.

Yes, but not like that one. When you have for example; cross stitch patterns with many colors this keeps them in order and handy for that project!

This is used to sort out different colors of yarn for intricate needlework such as embroidery and cross stitch. Perhaps this could have been used to sort yarns for tapestry knitting.
