Any farm girls interested in a 30 day photo challenge? Each day we would take photos around one theme or word, I'll upload them into a gallery nightly, and we can provide constructive criticism to each other...

Okay - I'm going to start a new thread. :)

So good to be back home!!

As some of us have said, the link to the list of challenges is too difficult to read. I would suggest starting a new thread with the challenges numbered 1 - 52 and clearly posted at the top. The challenges can be marked off as the week passes. It will take a little work up front and after that, the thread can be self-administered until 2015.

Are we still interested in the photo challenge now that the holidays are over?

My mother keeps telling me I need to come update the thread and I get busy and forget. Hubby has been sick for over a week, Christmas was busy for us, just having trouble remembering to come. Sorry girls.

So good to be back home!!

Here is my Looking Down picture. It was taken on the snowy sidewalk outside the school at which I volunteer.

Yes, the Christmas season, work and family have been getting me behind also. I can wait till after the first of the year, but I truly do want to become a better photographer. When I see the pictures posted on MJF's boards and in the magazine, I realize how far I have to go, to learn about photography.

The Pinterest link posted above does not work for me. Was the board moved or re-named? I am on Pinterest and can view the MJF boards but can't find one that seems to relate to this thread.

Here's my looking down photo

It's a drop of water just as it's hitting a bowl of water. I started with plain water, then added some blue food coloring but wasn't dark enough so I added a little bit of red coloring. It took a lot of photos until I got one that was just right. Had fun working on this, hope y'all enjoy it.

The only reason I haven't put up a picute is because I didn't know the assignment. The link Kathy posted is broken or maybe I just can't access it. I believe someone should post the challenge here every Sunday so that everyone is properly informed. I will do the Looking Down and Framed this week.

I think after the first would be great!! I really like doing this, but I've been so busy with holiday things that this has been pushed way back on the to do list! I plan to pick up or join back in after Christmas. I think others will too.

Brenda,
The challenge for last week was "looking down", the challenge for this week is "framed". Here is a link to the 52 weeks

Most seem to have lost interest in this, I think it may be that people are just to busy right now. I am going to continue on my own just for the experience and to learn all the functions of my camera. If you want to play I will continue to post. I talked to Stephanie to see if she wanted to maybe just put this on hold until after the first of the year and see if there would be more interest.

What do you think?

Yes, those tanks really emphasize the sky behind them.

So, what's this week's assignment?

Brenda - thanks for the site, looks like a lot of good info.

We had overcast gray skies all week, but yesterday it started to clear for awhile and I thought we might get a nice sunset but rain clouds moved in late afternoon so... but we did get some nice dark rain clouds which I think looked kinda cool behind these big industrial tanks, so here's my sky pic

I found a great site (well actually a friend posted it on Pinterest so I guess she gets the credit) with photography

Marie, that blue is astounding! Patsy, I love the birds in the tree.
Everyone else, I really am enjoying this thread. Your pictures are eye-opening.

Marie,
That is a very cool picture!
Our skies are still just a dull overcast gray with showers, not expecting to see the sun until next wednesday.

Here is my sky picture. I took it today in downtown Minneapolis. I am looking up at the top of the IDS building which is 50 storeys tall. The sky is always so clear and blue after a snow storm.

I've been waiting for a great sky to shoot a photo of. Last night we had a gorgeous sunset over the trees in my neighborhood. The only way to see it is from my second story. We have screens on our windows which would strongly influenced the photo in a bad way. I let the opportunity go. Dang! It's been a week of blue skies and cold temps here in western Washington. Not complaining. Love blue over grey.

I've been waiting and watching our skies this week but they have been so drab, hope something looks better in the next couple of days. I'm trying to shoot something new for each week and do as much as I can from my our yard or neighborhood.

Sylvia - The mason jar lamp in the color photo has such a nice warm feeling but the B&W is so fitting for a mason jar that I think I like it the best, nice to see the difference.
Linda - You have such a nice view!
Marie - That fabric has nice contrast and still shows the texture.
Patsy - You can almost feel the winter day in your B&W. Your sunrise has such nice colors, I really like it too. I don't see sunrise very often, I'm one of those late to bed late to rise kinda people here lately. Gonna try to do better and see what I'm missing in the mornings.
Brenda - I like that lake shot, very nice feeling. Your B&W is really cool, love the contrast and texture that it shows.

I'm having fun doing this and enjoy learning new things about the camera.

Stephanie has been really busy, doing some renovating at home - putting in a temporary kitchen until she can do what she really wants to do. Hope she will get some time this weekend to get back on here and get caught up.

For my skies submission - we happened to be driving by at a magical moment - the early bird gets the photo, I guess.

and even though it was last week's challenge I wanted to experiment with black and white. I took a photo of a sunflower seed head that the birds had pretty well used up and then edited it on Google+ which was quite an experience (you have to use Chrome browser) Here's the result

Here's my B & W photo. Thought I'd compare the color to this BW. Same subject, same lighting.

I found the charger and I took this black and white picture.

It is a piece of fleece fabric I bought with which I will make a friend a tied-fleece blanket.
