I just met the author* of the lovely new book for kids, "Knitting Nell," last week and learned all about her new project. Is anyone knitting up a new scarf for winter? Or looking for a new project to start? Consider the good scarf project! From her web site: ____________________________________________ "The good scarf project is a fun, low-cost philanthropic knitting activity for anyone!
It's a unique blend of: • low-tech, hands-on, yarn-and-needles knitting • high-tech "virtual" knitting (knitted segments of the scarf are "knit" together electronically on the web site) • no-tech metaphorical knitting (everyone and their good efforts are knit together in an online community over the course of one year)
There are many wonderful charitable knitting efforts in full force and the good scarf project is inspired by all of them. But it is different ... it is designed to honor many different kinds of goodness all at the same time ... and offers an easy and engaging way to connect with others.
Something good can be: • a good thought (knitting each stitch for peace) • a good cause (a charitable organization, maybe in your community, or maybe even in your school) • a good person or persons
This will be one long, beautiful scarf! It will be fun following the scarf's progress and seeing your knitting connected to everybody else's ... and discovering the goodness powering all of it.
Sound like fun? Then join in!"

*The author is Julie Jersild Roth (http://www.juliejersildroth.com). When I found out that she lives in Minneapolis, I emailed her to see if she would sign the book that I bought for my Hot Socks Swap partner in Norway. She did and was so nice! I can't wait to dive into my scarf! Happy knitting!
