I found a super cute pattern for knitted toddler slippers and have followed the pattern for size 4. Basically, it's a garter stitch with a side decrease, then you sew it up to make a slipper shape. The pattern says to knit for 8.5 inches. And I did. But GEEZ is that huge!!!! I can fit it over my clog and I'm a size 5 adult! I'm using 100% worsted wool, as the pattern calls for, but it seems like it won't felt enough. And, I've never felted before, so any opinions, advice is much appreciated!

Thanks for the help and the cheers, girls :) I do love it--I just wish I had more time to do it. I'm getting better...if only I had the time to keep practicing to make perfect! Birthday gathering this weekend, so I didn't get to felt the slipper, but I did finish the ears (ceeeute!!!) and I'll start on the other as soon as I get home tonight.

Jonni if it still is not felting up I might suggest doing needle felting that will help and you can also then customize where you need to tighten it up and shrink it in... Good Luck

and you can keep felting it if it isn't small enough the first time. I think you will be surprised how much it shrinks. Those sure will be some toasty slippers. Good luck.

By the way, don'y I remember a while back that you thought you would never be a good knitter? you rock Lady!

Try knitting a swatch and felting the swatch to see how much it shrinks up in the felting process. This should tell you if the slipper will be too large.
