EASTER blessings of joy and love and peace......... the perfect time to connect our Farmgirl knitters and crocheters to DEBBIE MACOMBER's 2nd "KNIT 1 BLESS 2" Charity knitting project for 2011.

Debbie has selected 3 of her favorite charities that help babies and children with love and comfort.....Project Linus, the BINKY PATROL, and NEWBORNS in NEED. Last year Debbie received 2000 items from across the country.

Let's help Debbie..... FARMGIRL STYLE..... with her goal of reaching 2500 items for these charities.

There's an important deadline and that means no late arrivals at all. The deadline to send our handmade items is May 31st and that's it.

Here's the link to "KNIT 1 BLESS 2" for this 2011 and an invite to all of us to do what Farmgirls do best...... share love and caring to brighten our world!

So grab your needles or hooks and some yarn and pick any favorite pattern you wish and let's start our stitching!

Judith,
Thanks SO MUCH for sharing your message. I am glad you have enjoyed working on JIFFY projects. Like you, I do think jiffy projects are Fabulous ways to improve one's stitching and also to explore new avenues that we might not take the time in our busy lives to get acquainted with and visit.

A Jiffy Project is a great sampler of something we might not have tried or something we might be revisiting again as in meeting up with an old friend and being excited all over again in friendship.

While sharing our time and our love for a special project, it's as if that love and blessings that we send out just returns right back to our hearts like a dove returning to its nest.

Thanks to all the Farmgirls who have been a part of "KNIT 1 Bless 2" for 2011 on behalf of The MARY JANE FARM FARMGIRL CONNECTION.

Teresita, Thanks so much for introducing me to this project. I mailed out my package this morning. Besides improving my stitching I was able to rationalize playing with yarn by completing small, useful projects. I plan to learn more of the jiffy projects to add for next year.

Well, it's about that time for Farmgirl Sisters to think about wrapping up any project that you might be working on for "KNIT 1 BLESS 2" within the next few days.

With Memorial Day weekend getting closer, it's a good idea to see that any unfinished project can be wrapped up by next Tuesday to allow that mailing time to get to Debbie Macomber's address in Washington.

I am certain that Debbie will very much appreciate all the lovely items that our Farmgirls have made who did participate in the 2011 event.

Deborah and Julie

You are both very-very welcome! Debbie is going to be thrilled. I think she has a really good chance of making her goal.

I know everything received is very appreciated! Debbie assistant, Renate, writes me and lets me know when my boxes have arrived.

Thanks for your help here and to all our Farmgirls who may have also been knitting and crocheting for "KNIT 1 BLESS 2" for 2011!

For those who didn't know that Debbie Macomber recently spent time in the hospital and had to cancel some of her book tour..... here's more of Debbie's special message ......

"I am humbled by the many, many emails and Facebook messages you sent me upon hearing that I had to cancel two signings at the beginning of my A Turn in the Road tour. Thank you one and all for your lovely notes of concern.

I had a few scary hours when I thought I was having a heart attack. As it turned out, the symptoms I experienced had nothing to do with my ticker, and my stay in the hospital was just overnight. After a couple of days of rest, I had the old Macomber spunk back and was able to set out for the remainder of my tour. (Before heading to the hospital, I took a bath and changed clothes. If I was going to keel over I wanted to be squeaky clean and wearing pretty underwear. My mother would have been so proud!)"

Hope your May days have been filled with happy hours. Here's a nice way to fill up a little of those May hours with this very popular KNIT CAP from LION BRAND that makes a sweet and adorable cap for babies. You'll also find some variations too.

Just grab your favorite baby yarn and let's knit some of those darling caps for "KNIT 1 BLESS 2" for 2011.

Thinking about making caps for PREEMIES for Debbie's selected "NEWBORNS IN NEED".....

Remember that Preemie caps should fit over an orange to be the correct size. For full-term newborns, the cap should fit over a grapefruit.

Making preemie and newborn caps are FUN, FABULOUS and FAST!

With only 2 weeks to complete projects and get them in the mail off to Debbie Macomber, those JIFFY projects are the smartest way to make sure that projects don't stay in UNFINISHED land.

Here's another JIFFY project that is extra easy for our Farmgirl crocheters and really gives you time to stitch several lovely gifts of love and really do what Farmgirls do best....... make our world more loving and caring!

NOW we are going to complete our JIFFY & EASY bootie by folding it together and then stitching up the seam. You may have noticed that I have a good amount of yarn for my seams. I start my seam work from the top and work down.

That works up very fast..... and GUESS what !!!! YOU are now ready to enjoy making your own Farmgirl JIFFY and Easy Baby BOOTIES and perfect to send along to Debbie Macomber's "KNIT 1 BLESS 2" 2011 Project.

Here we go now with the wrapping up of our lovely bootie that is nice and soft....

Whether you make your K1,P1 rib for 7 rows or 14 rows (my favorite way) you will then need to bind off in the pattern. I use a #7 needle to bind off so it keeps it looking pretty in the bind off.

Here's what the baby bootie looks with 14 row-rib and the bind off completed.

Now let's work on PART C of these booties so you can complete your very own Farmgirl Baby BOOTIES along with me....

The final part is making the rib and that's easy and fast. You are doing a K1,P1 for 7 rows if you want the bootie without the roll-down look or 14 rows if you want the fold-down cuff. For beginners, this is called a rib and what you are doing is knitting the knit stitches and purling the purl stitches. So keep an eye on this when you start a new row. This is not a seed stitch.

Here's what the bootie looks like with 7 rows only. This will not have the roll-down cuff.

FARMGIRL TIP to making BOOTIES......

I use my counter for each of the 3 parts of this bootie.

It's really an easy formula for this bootie too.

Think 14 rows ( Part A) 7 rows (Part B) and back to 14 rows (Part C)

14-7-14 is the MAGIC CODE for these JIFFY & Easy Booties!

Now we are going to work on the 2nd part of our bootie..... Call it Part B. This is where you will go into a lovely and easy decrease. This is what gives it a nice definition to the front of your bootie. IT's the body of your bootie....

You have 7 rows that you will be working on.

Row 1: K18, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K18
Row 2: P17, P2tog, P1, P2tog, P17
Row 3: K16, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K16
Row 4: P15, P2tog, P1, P2tog, P15
Row 5: K14, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K14
Row 6: P13, P2tog, P1, P2tog, P13
Row 7: K12, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K12

K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together
P2tog = Purl 2 stitches together

You have now completed Part B of your body. Give yourself a Farmgirl hug! You are doing GREAT!

Now you are ready to KNIT for 14 rows in garter stitch....

The size you are making will fit a newborn.

This is first main part of 3 parts of your booties...... Call it Part A which gives you the sole for your booties and groundwork to build upon.
