Good Morning Ladies

I have spent hours on ebay and such to find that perfect apron pattern for my vintage fabric - If you would be so kind as to let me know your favorite one and why - I have several which I hte the way the straps wont stay put or you have to be double jointed to get it on - you know that type??

I do not wish to add to your workload but I have way too much fabric just sitting there crying out to be used...

Hi Terri

do you have a picture of it??? I have purchased three vintage patterns and have not cut any yet so I am still open to changes... No like I do not have a ton of fabric so I can experiment but I love options.

Thanks

My favortie pattern is one called
Old fashioned apron"...you are covered from neck to toe(if desired), it has no waist, and does not tie around the neck,I really dont care for those that have a waist, nor tie around the neck...

I've become addicted to aprons as well. I only have two working aprons in my collection so far...but TONS of patterns. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate an apron 'look' into my wardrobe.

Grace,
I used the McCall's pattern for a swap, and LOVED it! It has a very clean finish, no serger necessary. You sew the pieces wrong sides together, then the double fold bias tape covers the seams.

I'm in love with the Lola apron, but don't have that pattern yet. I do have a couple of other patterns (Emmaline apron & Gnome messenger bag) that Meg has created (her blog is at www.sewliberated.typepad.com), and they are very nice.

I love that Lola apron! I wouldn't make the neck straps that wide and I'd make them to tie. Neck straps are tied to fit and then you leave them tied to pull over your head after that. I also have the other pattern that Heather posted. It's a good pattern, lots of variety. I made the half apron with the scalloped edge. I always enlarge pockets for any apron I make. I like 2 big pockets on everything. I just made an apron with no pattern...just half apron by pleating by hand every few inches at the waist. The a ruffle is pleated also on the bottom. I'll try to show a pic. Sometimes I piece different fabrics to give the quilt look. Handmade bias of a different print works good on an apron too.

I have one apron that is basically a big rectangle that ties across one shoulder and in the back...it's kind of avante guard, looks GREAT with a turtle neck and jeans, and really covers you so it's super practical. It's called a Tamari apron and Really easy to make www.sewingworkshop.com/index.php/action/item/id/78/prevaction/category/previd/1/prevstart/36/

This is my new favorite pattern...but I haven't made one yet. I think it's kind of sexy, if an apron can be that. It's the Emeline apron sewing pattern on www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=15398585&ref=vt_other_2

Shelba we are thinking alike. I have that one on the list I am making - loved that is was one yard, reversible and had finished look. It gave me a ton of ideas for pockets and ties. Glad someone mentioned this one...

Bonnie I will go back thru the older posts - I started there and my eyes began to cross and my butt fell asleep while trying to read all the listings but that was also the same day the billy plowed my into the metal barn so I was not feeling 100%.

I really appreciate everyone help on this - This morning when I could not sleep I went down and started ironing fabric to get ready to start cutting - I guess I have to get the patterns first but BOY AM I GOING TO BE READY!

The Paisley Pincushion in Oregon has a reversible apron pattern my family and friends love to receive. It's one yard each of two coordinating fabrics. You but a big pocket in the belly area so nothing soaks through and there's a place for potholders and other things you pick up, and a pocket in the chest area for your reading glasses. The tie goes through a casing, around your neck, and is long enough to cris-cross in back and tie in front. You could adapt a plain cobbler apron pattern you create to include these features, too. I would take a photo, but the ones I have are either dirty or wrapped for giving.

Take care, Shelba

Thanks Monica - I can not get over that I won something.

Amy Grace thanks for the two sites - I found a couple of winners at the rubyjane site. Oh My now I am apron crazy - mind is spinning with all kinds of ideas.

Better go to bed before I sit again for hours looking at aprons.

Grace, if you've some time to kill, go back to the original "apron sew-a-long" thread from last year and skim through the posts with pictures. http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10531
There are many pattern ideas and tips as we shared the aprons we were sewing.

There is a pattern company called The Paisley Pincushion that has some really cute vintage-style aprons. Also, Sew Liberated has a couple cute ones.
www.reprodepot.com and www.rubyjane.com both have some good apron patterns

Marian, Jenny, thanks for posting the apron sites. What fun! I keep thinking I will get an apron made one of these days, and it is so nice to look at some finished ones, and possibilities for later...

Guess What??
I won an auction on Ebay - first time ever and I got a 1952 Vintage Cobbler Apron - McCalls 1713 for $.99 cents - WOW the universe is for once on my side. Now I have to sit and wait for it to get here - Now I also have to decide which fabric to use - I only have about 600 to pick from, maybe I need to go fabric shopping?? Silly me, take a breath, go clean the barn!

Don't stop sharing pattern ideas with me - I still have tons of fabric that need to be made into something usefull.

Jenny thanks for sharing that site - found several that I would love and the funniest thing was the book "A is for Apron" I have but let a friend use it and completely forgot about it. I called her and asked if I could have it back - 6 months is long enough. The old gray cells are failing - I thought I had more patterns on aprons - but I think I am still going to add a couple of the ones you gals have mentioned.

I knew you would point me in the right directions - hope it is also getting others to be in the mood for aprons.

I took the pattern for the apron out of MJ Sept/Oct mag and had it inlarged. One of the first copies to come out was I think was at 200% fits my grandaughter really well.
She looks so cute. If she would slow down long enough maybe I could get a non fuzzy picture.

my personal fav is a bib type that has a loop to slip over your head and ties at the waist. of course it has nice roomy pockets too *grin* when my sis was pregnant i made it with just a little idifference. instead of attaching the ties to the waist i simply put small loops there and made the straps come off the bib (instead of the loop) extra long so that it could "grow" with her. she uses it still 20 some odd years later! i will see if she happens to have a pic of it that i can show you. peace connie in alaska
