How do you all price hand spun yarn? I would like to sell some of mine, but how do I go about pricing it? I have seen some that is very nice merino for what seems like a good price and then I have seen some that to me looks like the most outrageous mess of yarn for a LOT of money! So how do you all price handspun yarn?

EXCELLENT!!!!
You just choose a template and it does most of the work for you.
Sizes up pictures automatically , you just choose small, med., large.
Makes it all purdy without a lot of work. I think blogs are a revolution~
and even better that they're free. ;)

Karin, Thank you! They did come out pretty bright, didn't they! Almost need sunglasses! I can't help but wonder what the kool-aid does to your insides if it does that to the nylon!!!

Monica, do you have a blog?
If not, you need to start one and chronicle your spinning etc etc etc.

Hey Bonne, Isn't this all so much fun!!!. Now aren't you glad you are addicted like we are! I think that beside all of the fun there really is a wonderful sense of accomplishment to make your own yarn and knit or crochet something out of that yarn! It seems sometimes we get brain dead and just go to the store for what we need for everything from food to clothes and I think it's better to do it ourselves!

You can combine the nylon fiber with wool to give it strength. Especially if it's to be used as sock yarn. (so I've read....) Vibrant colors!! The nylon really took the dye well. I didn't think that synthetics would dye as easily as natural fibers, but you learn something every day! lol

Thanks Jami! I did two variegated pieces and I really wanted one in more earth tones! would it work to dye it brown over the color! I don't want to end up with mud!

Jami, If you go to www.thesheepshedstudio.com/specialoffers.html they have nylon roving for 12.00 a pound. It is really soft! I think one lady said it spins really fine!

Nice dyeing job Monica! Real vibrant colors. I have never spun nylon before...not sure I've ever seen it before either! I've seen Tencel, soy silk, silk and all sorts of fibers but didn't know about nylon roving and had no idea it would take kool aid dye so nicely!

On the "orange question", wonder if you had any tiny particles of other colors around that could have gotten onto your roving in dry form before you submersed into your orange dye bath?

I might try some nylon roving and see about plying it with wool just for socks...hmmmm. Off to check out some of my favorite spots.

Okay, here is my first attempt at dying fiber! It is nylon roving that I got from a lady at the spinning guild! It is really soft and I thought it would be fun to try to dye!

Stephanie, the superwash deal could work. I would be up for that! Stay strong sister! Stay strong! Maybe we ought to put warning labels on the spinning threads!! It could read: WARNING: this thread may be habit forming, proceed with caution!!!

Bonne, You are very welcome!

Kathy happy to help any way we can!

Paypal is my friend, and a kick wheel is now on it's way to me. Thanks for the enabling!

I love to spin. I have multiple wheels and quite a few drop spindles, but this is the first kick wheel I've ordered. I think it will be a great portable option when I want to sit, but don't want to take the wheel with me. Can't wait!

Bonne Posted - Sep 16 2008 : 06:01:21 AM
Spin Off is great!! I read them last night while hubs watched football.
The kick wheel also works great. It's wonderful when you want to sit and spin. I like the drop spindles when standing though, so it's "6 of one and half dozen of the other".
Monica, my son is 22, so no little ones around. When he was a toddler I also took care of 2 other children and my crafting consisted of playdoh~fingerpainting~trips to the library for storytime and the park. LOL I never got much done for me then.
PS: I want to sincerely thank everyone here for your encouraging words and inspiration~wouldn't have attempted spinning without you! ((hugs)) ;)

Way to go Bonne! You are a natural. Visited your blog and saw your pictures this morning...you have been busy. I have never used a kick wheel...you are ahead of me. I do envision a spinning wheel in your future. How do you like the Spin Off? Lots of people don't realize there is all kinds of patterns to knit and weave in them.

Hey Monica, ok, y'all are driving me nuts! omg, I fall off the wagon so easily..all this talk of spinning is sending my mind into a whorl...LOL

But I'm being strong! ok, Monica I'll have to go checkout the superwash wool...maybe we can work a deal where I supply the fiber and you just charge me for the ounces that you spin up for me or however you want to calculate it?? Just a thought..

And the spun silk thread is just simply amazing!!! I'd love to be able to touch it and see it in person. I've never seen thread spun before!

Bonne, headed to your blog to see what you've done!

Connie, I haven't got one yet, but Bonne did get one! She has pictures on her blog of what she has done so far!

Bonne, you must not have any kids!!!! It has taken me a month to get done what you have! It looks good!!! Isn't it addictive? I am dying nylon roving right now with kool-aid so I will post pics if it comes out okay! Isn't this all so fun and I have to say I love your drop spindle out of a canning lid! That is too cool!

Bonne, I love that web site! I am wondering whether or not this is payback for being a part of getting you stuck on spinning! I bought a pound of olive and burgundy blended merino yesterday for an order I have so I can't do any shopping for a while!

Stephanie, check out this website www.thesheepshedstudio.com. They have a lot of colors of superwash wool! I don't know if it's merino, but it is superwash! Let me know if you see something you like and later on when I have some $ to buy some I will get some and spin some fingering yarn! I like all of the colors so I figured I may as well start with a color you might be interested in! I love to spin really fine yarn!

Stephanie, the pictures are on the first page! I wish I could have made them smaller, but nothing I did on photobucket would make them copy smaller!

Bonne, I love the kick-wheel! I may have to look at getting one of those! The spinning wheel from Grace may have to be on hold for now unfortunately! I got pulled over on my way to church this morning for my windshield being cracked!! I just got a warning, but I have a week to get it fixed so there goes any money I would have had! It was the nicest cop though because for some reason I didn't have a current insurance card on me and he could have cited me 500.00 for that!! I think I am going to have a big sale on etsy!!!! I went to the spinning guild meeting yesterday and now I really want a wheel!!!

seriously, If anyone sees anything on etsy they like I will take 25% off!!
