Well, in my crazy week of caring for elderly needs, readying for vacation, and all my other 10,000 projects and responsibilities, I caused what my Grandma used to call a kerfuffle (mess). My sincere apologies Farm Girls...so...

To the Farm Girls who got their lists and fabric and buttons, glad you liked them! Now I just cut as many squares of fabric and added as many buttons as I thought was fun. We didn't really set any number did we! I just had fun doing it.

To the Farm Girls who didn't make the first list...I had already mailed out the first list when many of you emailed. So I am making a second list, and will snail mail it to everyone.

Hope this helps quiet nerves and answer questions. The quilt block swap is still going to happen, and I will email the list I have compiled to Mary Jane's wonderful workers who have so graciously offered to take over. THANK YOU MARY JANE & COMPANY!!

Good Morning Farmgirls!!

MaryJane is pleased to announce that you can now sign up to be on our mailing lists for all the various Farmgirl Connection projects … from traveling aprons, books, buttons, charm squares, dolls, and quilts to sharing mail art, birthdays and recipes.

We’re now ready and willing to gather up all your mailing lists for these projects and manage them here at the farm. Just click on the “Sign up for Farmgirl Connection Projects” link from the Farmgirl Connection opening page to see descriptions of all the traveling projects.

Sign up for the projects that suit your fancy. Then we'll e-mail back to ask a few pertinent questions and get your address and phone number. While we monitor the lists for privacy and safety, all you farmgirls at heart can turn your energies toward creativity!

I know there is some confusion, as the mailing lists were started on the forum and are now managed here at the farm. If you’re curious to know if you’re already on a list, please contact Kate@maryjanesfarm.org and she’ll be happy to check for you. Take it Kate! …

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Kate Edwards and I’m a new member of the MaryJanesFarm crew (oh how exciting!!). I grew up just north of Spokane in a little town called Riverside with my Mom (Teri), Dad (Steve) and little sis (Allie). After high school I went to Eastern Washington University, where I studied Communications. Throughout my life, I’ve always been the kind of person to follow life’s little paths wherever they decide to take me, and this past spring my path took an exciting turn. I was introduced to MaryJane’s son, Emil, at my mom's spring antique show (The Farm Chicks Antique Show and Open Marketplace). The next thing I knew, my weekends were full of visiting the farm in Moscow to see my new boyfriend (oh how fun it is to be a girl!!). Then just this past week, MaryJane offered me the delightful job of organizing the mail lists for all the fun farmgirl projects on the forum and to run MaryJane’s Bed & Breakfast. I couldn’t pass it up!! What an amazing dream this has all become. Now that you all know a little about me, it's time for me to learn all about you. Can't wait to chat with you all soon!!

Other new forum features:

We’ve added a section for Farmgirl Chapters on our website. Our new web features allow you to sign up to Start a Chapter, do a Chapter Search to find and communicate with neighboring chapters, read a recent Newsletter, sign up for a Traveling Journal, and attend a Farmgirl Campout Convention. We’ll also be able to add new pages as new ideas are created.

The Farmgirl Connection is continuing to grow by leaps and bounds thanks to Clare, Eileen and all the fabulous farmgirls at heart that are gathered here! The strong ties of friendship are held together by all our apron strings!! Thank you all for participating in the Farmgirl Connection!

Sunnily yours,

Yes, when you are a farmer, it's hard to find time to quilt. But, on hot summer afternoons, it makes more sense to come inside and feel the fabric and browse thru quilt books. I have about 3 quilts in progress, 8 or so 'kits' awaiting, and zillions of ideas. I co-founded a quilt guild almost 2 years ago and have made some new acquaintences. But my other love is being in my garden, which is a lava flow on the bank of the Big Wood River, and walking around the farm with the dogs, seeing what havoc the beaver have raised.

Jane, many thanks for sending me a updated list and your charm squares, I just love the new patterns I'm collecting from this project, I can see a very special lap quilt in the making or a wall hanging?? What is everyone else making with their charm squares??

Hi farmgirls! I had the pleasure of talking to Diane this morning, it's nice to have a voice on the other end of the line! She sent me the list of names of those participating in the Charm Square exchange. She also sent the names of those who are also interested in the Quilt Block exchange and Apron Exchange. If you have not sent Diane your address, could you please send your name and address to the appropriate mailing list:
quilts@maryjanesfarm.org
aprons@maryjanesfarm.org
Thanks! We're getting everything organized here so you farmgirls can cut, stitch, embroider, button and have fun being creative.
Go on ahead and keep sending out your Charm Squares. Diane sent me a picture of hers ~ beautiful handwork to be certain!!
I'm out of my office until Tuesday so you all have a great weekend!

Good morning farmgirls! Thank you all for your wonderful creative energy! The charm squares sound delightful. I believe that Diane originally sent charm squares out to those farmgirls on the first mailing list. Diane mentioned a second list Junebug. Perhaps that is the list you are on and it has fewer names.
For those of you who are on a current mailing list, keep cutting and buttoning away to your heart's content! Diane is happy to have new mailing lists be kept track of here at the farm. For those of you who want to join in, please 'sign up' by e-mailing quilts@maryjanesfarm.org Please specify whether you want to do charm squares, 12" quilt blocks in the future or both.
Thank you!

You gals got it! These charm squares are for us to do what ever our hearts desire, for our stash, for fun, whatever? And now that we got the go ahead, I'll be cutting like crazy but my list only had 8 names and I don't want to miss anyone so can I get the rest of the names emailed to me, thanks! Happy cutting......

The charm squares I received today were just fabric (I believe there were 7), cut in very precise 6 inches and on the bottom of the lovely letter with the addresses of everyone I need to send charms to, was 1 sizable button with 6 little ones circling it like a flower. It was the most charming charm packet I could imagine. Mine won't be nearly as attractive but it will be sent with enthusiasm! I might even stick a piece of some holiday fabric in just to make up for my lack of such a nice presentation! No quilting on these pieces. I know if you buy charm packets from fabric catalogs or quilt stores, they are just pieces cut to anywhere from 1 inch to 6 or so inches.

Hi Everybody! I'd like to join in. I've read backwards but I'm still a little lost. Do you just make a 6" square and send it to the farmgirls on the list? Do you quilt it first? Please help. Thanks!

What a relief! I thought I was the only "novice" in the team and didn't want to say anything. I assumed since we were asked color preferences, that we keep the charms we receive. I honestly don't know if there is any goal to the charm exchange except to add to our own stashes and make it easy to put together a quick 6-inch-patch quilt (?) if we so choose. I was thinking the buttons were just an extra delightful bonus. If I'm wrong and there is an actual plan in place here, I'd like to know too!!! I'm just having fun, whatever it is we're doing! No kerfuffle, honest..just wondering and relieved to hear somebody else is kinda in the dark, too.

Since I am totally a novice on quilting ( I am clueless, I am learning this as I go) can some one explain what we do with the charm squares and buttons? Are we making quilt blocks to swap? I am a dunce where this is concerned, but ready and excited to learn and to start a quilt! Can someone also suggest a good beginners book for learning to quilt? The only thing I have ever quilted was a Christmas stocking for my daughter.

Oops, I see a mistake in my posting. I meant I received 11 addresses and a 12th was added on the back of the envelope. Don't worry. If I get any additional addresses or lists, I'll make sure to send to all of them!

Your 2 cents count CarolC ~ thanks! Have fun making and sending your Charm Squares!
I'm sure we can organize more than one Quilt Block exchange over time as many farmgirls will want to participate. Thanks for the input!

Got my first squares this morning and buttons and the loveliest printed letter from Jane Hubner! I don't have a printer, so I'll do the neatest possible job by hand when I get mine done and go have it copied somewhere...or some such thing. I won't be getting back into town until next Monday, but I promise to get my squares and buttons in the mail then, along with the address list. Since my work schedule is Wed-Sat, about 12-14 hours a day, I'll probably sit down and get it all done Sunday. I'm so excited! Hey, if my 2 cents count for anything, I would like to wait on the block exchange until after the charm exchange. Or I might have to even forego the block exchange until the next round or two (if it's done more than once). Economic situation is increasingly tenuous with changes at the on-line company I work for, though I feel guilty as anything even saying that, knowing what the people on the Gulf Coast are going through. Anyway, I have the list of 11 people Jane sent me (with a 13th added to the back envelope) and I'll get them out Monday. Carol

Hi Diane, Jenny, Karen, Annie, Jane, MeadowLark, Sue, Julia, Holly and the rest of the farmgirls making Charm Squares,
Many thanks to Diane who has done a 'farmgirl fabulous' job of creating this wonderful project! Thank you Clare for keeping me on task in getting the apron strings tied around all the projects!!
I agree with Jane, it makes sense to finish the Charm Square exchange before starting the Quilt Block exchange. What do you think??
Please do go ahead and send your Charm Squares out to each other!! Once the creative energies are flowing they shouldln't be stopped for heaven's sakes! Now, I am not a quilter, but these Charm Squares sound like a lot of fun to make. I have quite a button collection that my husband's grandmother saved over the years. They are certainly works of art all on their own.
I will ask Diane to send me the existing mailing lists for the Charm Square exchange and the list for the Quilt Square exchange.
In the meantime, if anyone wants to join in the Charm Square exchange, please sign up on the Mail List at quilts@maryjanesfarm.org If you specify Charm Squares or Quilt Block Squares,(or both) I will be happy to keep track and add you to the list(s.)
If you have any other helpful hints, please let me know!! Thanks farmgirls!!

Hi Jenny & Julia,

I'm glad you liked your charm squares. I'm hoping the farm tells you it's okay to go ahead...that took some time, and I wouldn't want to be trying to package charm squares like I did and also be sewing quilt blocks for the swap coming up. It's nice to first do one, then the other...just my feelings. (Plus, we might be able to incorporate some of the charm square fabrics into our swap blocks...hmmm.)

Hey Diane, Not to add the kerfuffle, but while you were on holiday, Jane offered to send squares to me. I got them today, but now I read Clare's post to "hang loose". What should I do? Should I go ahead and send squares on to the gals on the list or should I wait? Julia
