I would like to get an early jump on this swap, So I was thinking to start this thread now to get a good amount of participats.

I would like to do a 12 inch blocks (12.5 with the seam allowance)
The block pattern will be of your choice.

The fabrics will be winter colors. Lets not do holiday fabrics. You know, santa or christmas trees. This way our wall hanging or lap quilt can be left out longer.

Sign ups for this block will start now!
I will close sign ups on October 15th. Sound fair to all of you?

All blocks should be mailed by November 30th. That will give us one and a half months to get our blocks done. (if needed I will extend the due date a few days)

I figure if we have 16 participants, that would give us a 4 X 4 lap quilt or wall hanging. Or a couple of table runners. (they make nice christmas gifts)
If we have the 16 participants, each person would make 16 blocks. You would mail me 15 and keep one of them for yourself. After I receive everyones blocks I will sort and mail them back.

The final numer of blocks to be made will depend on the number of participants. If we only have 12 then only 12 block will need to be made.

Hope to here from everyone soon!

Here are our participants so far
1 yarnmamma received 12/24
2 sewgirlie received 11/29
3 carycamille received 11/29
4 smoothjuice received 12/20
5 smoothjuice received 12/20
6 cheryl received 11/24
7 katmom received 10/27
8 khartquiltreceived

Hello all you beautiful ladies from the Winter Quilt Block Swap.

I just want to tell you that I received the most amazing package when I returned from a renewing trip south to Florida this week. I found in the mail this incredible box filled with a quilt made by all of you. I can't tell you how long I just cried while I read all the names of the participants and checked out all the fancy machine quilting designs. It is INCREDIBLE, BEAUTIFUL, WARM, COZY, HEART-TOUCHING.

Ladies, I can't thank you enough for thinking of me. I was so bummed when I was unable to participate due to cancer treatment of radiation with chemotherapy for seven straight weeks (plus a couple small surgeies while going through this stuff). I was so tired out and spent time the last three weeks just resting in recliners and napping off and on all day when I got home. It was really tough. One thing I missed so dearly was sewing. I spent most of the week at my sister's home in NJ to be close to the treatment facility. I made lots of yo-yos, but I never even felt like doing some hand embroidery.

After my four weeks in Florida my numbers have gone up and I can feel it in my body. My hemoglobin is close to normal and so are my RBC and WBC. I can go every other day without a nap now.

Anyway, I just want you all to know that I absolutely LOVE the gift of this handmade treasure quilt. I have it downstairs to snuggle under when I lay on the recliner each afternoon. I snuggle down and napped under it yesterday. I also started the book from Chicken Soup on love stories and read a whole section. You know what I love about it? All HAPPY stuff with love and enduring marriages in there. It reminds me how lucky I am to have my husband. I have not played the music, but I hope to today when I get sewing on my Spring Flowers Quilt Block swap blocks.

Thank you so much. I would like to send you each a note, and so if you get an email from me in the next week asking for your mailing address, you will know what it is about.

Love to all of you, prayers for you all and thank you so much for the love and generosity. You ladies are truly angels on earth and have brought me so much hope and joy that words are hard to express it all. Please know I feel so blessed to call you friends.

I put a nice book (A chicken soup for the family book) and a relaxing CD of classical music in the box with the quilt(Of course I had a great time at Borders, as usual!) It will be a happy gift of love, relaxation and friendship from her MJF friends. Working on a group project was fun for me. Glad you all like it.

I just went to your blog and seen the photos. I will say it again, you did a wonderful job. Thank you! To me putting it together is the easy part. Its the quilting that I have trouble with. It looks great! Putting everyones name on it is special. I love it! And I am sure it will be well loved by the receiver.

We had snow today, so I did not get to the PO after school (I got done with drama club at 4:30). Tomorrow it is airborne! It looked so nice with everyone's name on it. Of course, I was lucky because kathy (khartquilts) put it all together for me before she sent it here. THAT made my life complete since I hate putting it together before quilting.

Kathy, I got your block in today's mail... I just love getting farmgirl mail! Thanks for the block and also for the eggnog tea (kinda goes well with this swap topic with all the talks of double yolk eggs!...don't have my own hens but the farmer who I buy my eggs from has some young hens and I've gotten lots of double yolkers in the past few months) I'm looking forward to trying the tea one evening very soon!
Kathy I hope your aching arm issues are solved soon. That's something I really fear happening to me...
...and I hope all you gals who mentioned being sick/passing the bug around and around in the house get well soon too!
Thanks again everyone for a great swap!

Kathy, I got my block today. It is really nice...thanks so much.
I'm going to put 4 together for a pillow. Then I'd have something soon. I think the pieced blocks look good in a pillow even without quilting...don't you?
thanks again, Linda

Kathy,
I just received your quilt square and it is so sweet with the snowmen and recipe on it! Thanks! Now I have no excuse, since I am feeling better today, to not start the top of my quilt. Felt so good I even did some cleaning....... wait maybe that is from a fever or something.

I don't want to be a whiner, so I just haven't been writing in. Work has been awful--tons of work, not enough people, can't hire more, 2 out with surgeries, lots of pressure from the owners, etc., etc. Doing work on the side has been awful too--had to go to court over a divorce case with one of my clients, deadlines, special projects they need done, and just me to do it all. Tax season with year-ends and W-2's here in January. UGH. My husband has been sick on and off since September. Migranes, sinus infections, ear infections, one cold/flu after another. I haven't been nearly as sick as him, but I've had my share too. did I mention his migrane pills? $26 per pill!!

Then, the biggest issue for me has been my right hand/arm. I've been going to a chiropractor since last summer because I think I've got carpal tunnel, and don't want to have surgery. Well, when the weather turned cold, my right hand started to swell, and I've got pain through the knuckles as well as in the wrist. Now he's talking about sending me to a rhumatologist because he thinks it's a combination of osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel. Anyway, I can't do anything for a very long period of time with the right hand. So, I trim 2 sides of a block and make a cup of tea. Then I trim 2 sides of a block and read a chapter of a book. then I trim 2 sides of a block, and I put a load of laundry on. You get the idea. So, making blocks ends up taking ten times longer than it normally does, and I end up putting it off because I know it will hurt when i do it!

ktknits is not ktknitting very much, nor can she do much of any other crafty thing, because everything seems to be so "right hand" intensive, and it makes her verrrrry saaaadd. So, i guess it's a good thing that I'm working 14 hours a day, 6 days a week so i have something to take my mind off it.

Kathy t....trying to look on the bright side.
