Saw these on some site and thot about the farmgirls.......

Don't you just love old vintage fans from long ago..Something so lovely and romantic about them!! Well here we go!

PARTNERS;

Beth Jones~~Kate Peikin
Beth Jones~~Judith Lickteig
fille de ferme~~Alissa Carmany
buzzn bee~~Malena Hunger
Nini Betters~~Darlenelovesart

What you will do is make a fan from lightweight cardboard, like cereal boxes..
You will make 5 blades for the fan, Cover the back and the front with scrapbook paper, decorating the back and the front, edge the edges with a marker or stamp pad.
Decorate the fan as you would with lace or any embellishments.
Make it Thanksgiving looking, using paper, turkeys emblems, etc
When finished, lay out like a fan spread out would be and glue ribbon on the back of the fan so it can be gathered up or spread out.
Using a hole punch, punch a hole in the bottom part of the fan and tie a ribbon or a tassel..
I will have the pattern for the fan blade...You will cut out 5 blades and decorate the back and the front!

Email me your address when you sign up and I will mail out a pattern to you.

This is fun, I made one to see how it turned out and it is really fun.

Happy Crafting......Sign up ends October 10th........Send out time will be November 5th...When you receive the pattern, begin making the blades and it will go faster!

Do your best work and please, if you cannot carry thru, put a note on this swap site...Smiles

You can never be to kind!

Hi everyone, hope you had a great Thanksgiving yesterday! I thought you might like to see a picture of the beautiful fan Beth made for me. It's sitting on our mantelpiece now! Thanks again, Beth, for a fun swap!

oh I was facebook this morning and someone had a craft site on there from Mexico I think and there was a different fan and was really beautiful. It was made with plastic forks and the tines were the fan, any way it was beautiful I saved it from there if anyone want to see it I can email it them.
That site and altered switch plates and a whole bunch of craft ideas...

I have a friend that has a business with computers and I am going to have him look at some and let me know if any of them are good or not. We shall see. In the mean time I will continue to work with this one....It works other ways and I can get on the internet with it.
Well you take care and enjoy this site I love it here, I have made some many new friends and they really do care.

Hi Darlene, it is indeed a very pretty fan and Beth put a lot of hard work into it.

Yes, wouldn't it be nice if everything worked as it should? Good luck with your new computer hunt - there are lots out there now that luckily are more affordable than they used to be. I wouldn't know the best kind to get what with all the variety, but if you have access to Consumer Reports at home or the library, they are a good bet for the latest computer reviews. Last time I had a new computer was 2002, and of course that became a dinosaur, so after sitting around for years it finally got recycled this year! Now I am using my husband's laptop under my own account, so that is okay but not quite the same as being able to use my own stuff like I used to. He tends to take the laptop with him on jobs, so if I need to use the computer, I'm out of luck. He also likes to "relocate" my belongings around our house (especially if it is a gadget or wire), making it difficult for me to find my stuff later!

That really sounds like a very pretty fan that Beth made for you Kate.
I have a good camera that I can take good pictures I just don't have a good computer that will put them on the screen. I am hoping to do something about that by next year. That sounds so weird , Next year is already around the corner.
Wow.
Well have a good day.

Beth! Thank you so much for your beautiful fan - I love it!!! Received it this past Friday, and what a great way to end a long week! Of course my old camera turned out to have a card in it with the lock broken off, so it would not work for me, but I did take a picture with my husband's phone that I hope to post soon (will have to remind him that we still need to do this). I love the way you did each blade with a different word (family, friends, home, memories and freedom), the pretty buttons with pheasant feathers, and the sheer ribbon tassel you made. I am proudly displaying it on our mantelpiece now, next to the very thoughtful Christmas card you enclosed. Thank you also for the tea towel (those seem to disappear around my house so I'm glad to have a new one)! What a great swap :)

Yay! I'm so glad you got it all right and like it, Darlene! I did take a picture, but it didn't come out very well - there was just too much reflection from the light, and the color doesn't show up correctly:

Well, anyway, I really hope you enjoy it, my friend! You're the best!

I have to agree, this one really was quite a challenge (getting it to fan out - whoo-ee!), but I enjoyed every minute of it!

Hugs and love -

Hi Nini
I got your lovely package today and the fan is so beautiful, and I took pictures so they are in my camera but my dumb computer won't let me load them from the camera to the computer. Nini did you possibly take a picture of everything...It is so beautiful, Love the way you did the fan. Thanks so much for the great smelling tea lights and the journal. I will make use of both.
I am disappointed that I can show you what Nini sent to me.
It definitely has a Thanksgiving theme with a lady pilgrem in the middle other Thanksgiving themes on each blade of the fan. It is beautiful. and for the bottom where the hole is she has put a pretty round pin that has brown colors in it and a brown bead like center holding feathers and fabric and it is removable and wearable so it has double use and I will wear it Nini!

Thanks so much everything.
hugs and love

Thanks, Darlene and Madeline! I'll try not to be in such a rush next time so I can post a picture. I do have an older digital camera that I know is around here somewhere (if my husband didn't bury it in the office) and I at least hope to take a picture of Beth's when I receive it!

I wanted to get my fan out to Nini and forgot to take a picture of it. I usually take pictures of everything but haven't been using my camera lately and forgot...

Hi Beth, I regret to say that I did not take a picture of the fan before I packaged it up - I was in a bit of a hurry to leave the house! But I will describe it for you ladies - I used a darker red card stock on both sides, stamped the blades with a gold wheat design and embossed each one. The "handles" (or lower part of each blade) I made out of our wedding invitation stock - a shimmery chocolate/copper color. There were 14 blades in this fan because I saw many museum photos of brise fans with this number of blades, and I wanted to give the full "fan" effect :) To tip the blades with something fun, I also stamped and embossed a gold "bubble" type design at the top of each blade. I found pheasant feathers at my local craft store and glued 3 of those to the back of each blade, so they decorate the top of the fan and give it some flirting potential! Also, when the sun hits them you can see their iridescence, which I thought was very cool. I was disappointed to find that my fan was a bit floppy and I wanted to be able to actually fan it out and use it. So this is the least decorative part of the fan (and they could probably be painted to match the fan color), but I also glued popsicle sticks to the back of each blade to reinforce them. Lastly I held them all together with a dark brown grosgrain ribbon at the back, and a burgundy tassel at the bottom. Overall I was very pleased with the effect! It ended up being a tad thick with the popsicle sticks added, but I like that it is functional - maybe for a costume party, Beth, if you end up attending one! - and it would look great displayed in a shadowbox too. I'm looking forward to receiving yours, Beth!!!
