Posted - Aug 13 2012 : 4:54:13 PM I am sure that they are "wonky and cute" Nettie. Once the blocks have arrived, I will mail them back .... I know that this was a challenge. We as quilters have become very concise about everything.... seam allowance, color choice, block placement, borders, I could go on and on. Sometimes it is nice to just cut and sew and see what happens. Think about the women that did not have rulers and rotary cutters. They also used what fabric that they had available. Yet when I see their quilts in a museum or book they show the character of the own. They show "her soul" so to speak. The Dear Jane quilt is one example that makes me think ... everything that was going on around her and she found time to sew. Small pieces of fabric put together in such a wonderful manner. Sometimes now at a quilt show you see some fabulous quilts but no the quilts have no "soul" so to speak. Enough of my rambling.... thanks so much to everyone for putting some of your "soul" into your wonky house blocks. I know that everyone will be happy when they see their blocks!!

Posted - Aug 13 2012 : 3:50:57 PM Mine are all done. I think I do better with a structured enviroment. I had a hard time with these. My first two house were so precise. I measured everything and then realized that was all wrong. So tried again not taking out the rulers except to make a cut. I hope I got them right. I left Barbara's address at work so will get these in the mail tomorrow.

Posted - Aug 07 2012 : 12:32:40 PM Joan, ever sense I met you on the 1st denim pocket swap I've amired how a simple act of kindness could touch you. *Huge hugs back!*
Like I said in my note I made the block for you so I couldn't see giving it to anyone else. Also, when I recieved your June/July blocks I saw you where a great quilter. So, I wanted you to have the block to look over if you ever wanted to make your own. I really think you can do it. Its just a tricky block to wrap your mind around.

Posted - Aug 07 2012 : 09:42:01 AM I can't belive what Fran did for me!
Here I am stalking all of you who are working so hard to get you wonky houses completed and not making any myself. Then sweet Fran surprised me by sending me her extra block.
When I opened the mail and saw it I sat down cried. How utterly and completely thoughtful of you Fran. There are tears in my eyes as I write this and I am ( my hubby won't believe this) speechless!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Huge hugs to you, Joan
For some reason the internet won't let me upload any pictures, I will try again another time, so you all can see her beautiful work.

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 10:18:10 AM Thanks, Toni! I don't see why no one would wait a couple of days longer.

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 08:08:08 AM Fran your block is lovely!! If everyone wants to give me this weekend to try again, I have off so I can try again. I will post here Sunday night if they get done. |
Wauka Mountain Mama |
Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 06:19:57 AM Toni- Personally, Iam willing to wait alittle longer for you. My understanding is we only have three ladies finished so far & I have five blocks & honestly, after fighting these things for so long Iam more than happy to never see my blocks again! :D But, I don't know if the other ladies are too thrilled with waiting...They finished over a month ago. I can't belive how trying this block was. Now that Iam finished I understand how they work so Iam certain I could make one without the applique, but that doesn't mean I want to...
I know you said the first set you did came out too big. How about this time you aim for makig them real small then maybe the size will come out right or if they do end up small just fill out the space with a boarder.
Iam all done with my blocks. If anyone wants to see them I have a pic on my blog. :)

Posted - Aug 01 2012 : 2:57:51 PM UPDATE!
Guys I've felt so bad for being slow on this so I just wanted to let you know Iam almost done! I got all the applique pieces ironed under & pinned to my blocks & my sewing machine loaded up with matching thread. So, after dinner & nightly chores I'll be sewing my little heart out. :)
They'll be in the mail on Friday.

Posted - Jul 26 2012 : 2:18:49 PM Joan, I know how you feel, I can't knit or crochet for the world. I have a huge basket of yarn & every now & again I pick a pretty color & try my dangest to no avail. You sew now so with time things like this will seem less diffcult to you. I really thought this would be no effort at all & I was wrong. If I had it to do again I wouldn't have done it as part of a swap because I feel bad that others have waited on me to finish, but I'd have still done it...Just very slowly & only when I was well rested & definally not when Iam working two jobs, raising a special needs kid & trying to open an Etsy page...But hey, Iam learning new things & this makes me happy! :) Give the blocks a try some day, they'll eventually make you proud of yourself.
Barbara, Iam almost done. I got the new applique pieces cut out & all the windows & chemney edges ironed under. So, I just need to iron under the edges on the doors & sew them to the blocks...Also, just for the sake of letting everyone know my goof-ups, my blocks are currently a perfect 13inches so I'll be cutting the edges to fit the 12inch mark. After that I'll have them mailed out. Hopefully that should be around the 1st.
